Clare County Probate/Family Court is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented professional to serve as Juvenile Register. This position plays a vital role in supporting juvenile delinquency and child protective proceedings while maintaining the highest standards of confidentiality, accuracy, and professionalism.

Position Overview

The Juvenile Register provides essential courtroom and administrative support to the Probate/Family Court Judge and Court Administrator. This role ensures compliance with Michigan Court Rules and State Court Administrative Office (SCAO) requirements while delivering respectful and professional service to the public, attorneys, and justice partners.

This position also serves as a certified electronic operator and maintains confidential juvenile court records in accordance with state and court standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain juvenile delinquency and child protective case files, including confidential and non-public records
  • Process petitions, police reports, and child protective filings, including emergency removal documentation
  • Schedule hearings and manage court calendars in compliance with Michigan Court Rules
  • Coordinate with the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, Department of Health and Human Services, court-appointed and retained counsel, and assignment clerks
  • Prepare SCAO forms, court orders, and emergency orders following hearings
  • Serve as certified electronic operator and maintain official courtroom recordings
  • Prepare courtroom equipment and ensure proper operation of recording systems
  • Swear in witnesses, assist with jury selection, and preserve exhibits and evidence
  • Manage financial transactions including fines, costs, and restitution
  • Process court-appointed attorney billings
  • Maintain record retention and destruction schedules in accordance with SCAO guidelines
  • Provide receptionist and counter support as needed
  • Arrange interpreter services and ADA accommodations
  • Serve as backup to the Probate Register and Deputy Clerk
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Probate/Family Court Judge

Required Qualifications

  • Knowledge of court procedures, legal terminology, and confidentiality standards
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Proficiency in Judicial Information System (JIS) and Microsoft Office
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Professional communication skills and ability to work effectively with judges, attorneys, law enforcement, and the public

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a court, legal, or government setting
  • Certification or experience as a electronic operator of court recording equipment
  • Familiarity with Michigan Court Rules and SCAO procedures
  • Experience with juvenile delinquency or child protective cases
  • College coursework, degree, or related certifications

Compensation & Benefits

This full-time position is covered under the applicable collective bargaining agreement. Wage placement is based on qualifications, experience, and the current union wage scale. The current wage scale for this position is $18.32 to $22.93 per hour over four step increases.
