JOB
The Juvenile Supervision Officer II performs work supervising juveniles in department’s secure facilities to ensure their safety and welfare, shift coverage, and transporting juveniles between jails, medical institutions, schools, and other locations. This position is responsible for providing training and mentoring for new and inexperienced staff that models proper section management and proper techniques for supervising juveniles in custody, including the proper ways to address serious behavioral issues and crisis management.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Performs all essential duties of a Juvenile Supervision Officer I, to include providing direct supervision of detained or referred youth and ensures the youth follow facility rules, taking disciplinary action as necessary. Leads, trains, guides, assesses and assists Juvenile Supervision Officers in housing unit management, resident supervision, and proper actions to be taken in a variety of situations pertaining to secure juvenile facility operations and juvenile behavior management. Administers the 90-day on-the-job training program to newly hired employees. Supervises facility resident duties such as setting up for and serving meals, loading and unloading of materials at the docks, performing laundry detail, supervising facility cleaning activities, and performing kitchen detail and inspecting for cleanliness. Assist the Detention Intake Unit and Post-Adjudication caseworkers with processing juveniles presented for admission to the facility. Advises facility residents of rules and regulations. Ensures daily meal count form is completed for all meals and snacks to be served on the assigned shift. Performs exterior perimeter checks of the entire facility, JJAEP, and Juvenile Probation areas to search for contraband, identify escape risks, and maintain safety and order. Issues clothing supervises showers and ensures adequate supplies are maintained for shift operations. Reports physical plant issues to Shift Supervisors and Shift Leaders so that work orders can be prepared and submitted in a timely manner. Maintains physical inventory of all equipment, materials, and supplies for assigned work area in the Juvenile Detention Center and/or Post-Adjudication Secure Correctional Facility. Regular and punctual attendance is required.Performs other related duties as required.
