Juvenile Treatment Specialist Lead, Dependency - Juvenile Court (0226)
Nature of Work
Under supervision performs work of moderate difficulty.
The Family Support Coordinator builds positive working relationships with families under the jurisdiction of the Juvenile Court, Dependency Division in order to support, teach, and enable the parent/guardian to utilize more effective parenting behaviors, maintain sobriety and pursue reunification with their children.The ideal candidate has experience providing direct services to families and youth and a strong understanding of the child dependency system, including work with families involved with the Department of Child Safety. They bring experience mentoring, coaching, and supporting parents and guardians in behavioral health or social services settings, and have worked with individuals impacted by trauma, mental health challenges, substance use, underemployment, and involvement in the juvenile or criminal justice systems. The candidate is also skilled in coordinating programs and services in collaboration with multiple community and service providers.
Typical Duties
- Works as a member of the Dependency Division under Coconino County Juvenile Court
- Applies Family Centered Practices that support and empower parents/guardians involved with the Department of Child Safety, build positive working relationships with parents, and utilize strength-based principals and actions
- Acts as a Community Coordinator for Safe Babies Court for up to 20 cases which includes facilitating Family Team Meetings on a monthly basis, supporting parents throughout the dependency case, providing kinship and foster placement support, attend and providing updates for court hearings, case plan staffings, and Team Decision Making meetings.
- Other duties may include: providing Family Time Visit Coaching services, teaching parenting skills utilizing evidence-based or promising practice models, conduct Reviews of Progress and Parent Action Item forms, implement other services as assigned
- Provides back-up mediation and facilitation for dependency cases
- Must be willing to travel within the State of Arizona as needed
Essential functions of this position include but are not limited to: driving; standing and walking to supervise detainees; working with and around co-workers, juveniles and the public; dealing with interruptions; vision acuity near and far, hearing and speech for communicating with juveniles, staff and the public.
Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's Degree in psychology, social work, sociology, or similar field of study and two years of experience working with juveniles in a residential setting OR any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must submit to background check prior to hire. Persons convicted of a felony are not eligible for hire within the Juvenile Detention facility. Must obtain First Aid/CPR certification within the first three months on the job. Forty hours of orientation training are required within first month on the job. Sixteen additional hours of COJET certified training are required each year. Must obtain an Arizona driver's license by date of hire and maintain it throughout employment. Final job offer will be contingent upon a satisfactory 5-year Arizona Motor Vehicle Report.

Knowledge and/or experience in:
Dependency/child welfare systems
Experience developing community connections.
This position is non-exempt from overtime.

- Crisis intervention and basic first aid techniques including CPR
- Detention policies and procedures and applicable state laws, rules and regulations
- Principles, methods and techniques of group and individual counseling
- Practices and procedures of a juvenile detention facility
- Juvenile court proceedings
- Human behavior and various social, economic and cultural backgrounds
- Recordkeeping, documentation and report writing
- Adolescent group activity planning and leadership

- Make appropriate decisions regarding methods of intervention and treatment
- Deal impartially with individuals of various socioeconomic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds
