K-4 Special Education Teacher

Job Summary
The K-4 Special Education Teacher provides specialized instruction and support to students with disabilities in accordance with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). This role collaborates with staff and families to support student learning, ensure compliance, and promote student progress and achievement.

Duties

  • Develops and implements individual education plans (IEP)
  • Communicates and collaborates with staff and family members regarding student progress
  • Develops and adapts curriculum to meet the individualized educational needs of each student
  • Works directly with the teacher’s aides (paraprofessionals) in supporting student learning goals.
  • Participates in IEP meetings, as scheduled by the school
  • Implements individualized reinforcement strategies to support student progress toward IEP goals
  • Creates and distributes progress reports quarterly
  • Provides individual and/or small group tutoring and maintains daily logs related to student achievement
  • Administers and interprets individual formal/informal assessments and measures of student progress toward IEP goals
  • Performs individual and/or small group tutoring and maintenance of daily interactive log related to student achievement
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Childhood Development, or a related field; advanced certifications preferred
  • Valid teaching certification for special education
  • Valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Fluent in English; with written and oral communication
  • Proven classroom experience working with children with disabilities
  • Strong knowledge of curriculum development tailored for special education needs including literacy, math, behavior management, and library services integration
  • Experience implementing IEPs and working with individuals with developmental disabilities
  • Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with students, families, colleagues, and external specialist
  • Demonstrated skills in classroom management, lesson planning, tutoring, and child development principles

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position requires standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, speaking, hearing, and occasional lifting of classroom materials and supplies. The employee must be able to actively supervise students and move throughout the campus as needed. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position operates primarily in a school environment and routinely involves interaction with students, parents, staff, and visitors. The employee may work in classrooms, offices, common areas, and other school facilities.
