Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team as a K-5 Counselor at Southwest Elementary and Pratt Academic Center. The successful candidate will provide comprehensive counseling services to students in grades K-5, focusing on their social, emotional, and academic development. This role requires fostering a supportive and inclusive environment that promotes positive mental health and well-being among students, while collaborating with teachers, parents, and the community.
Responsibilities
- Provide individual and group counseling to students, addressing social, emotional, and academic challenges.
- Develop and implement counseling programs that align with the needs of students and the goals of the school.
- Conduct assessments to identify students' needs and develop appropriate intervention strategies.
- Collaborate with teachers and staff to create a positive school climate and support student success.
- Facilitate workshops and presentations for students, parents, and staff on topics related to mental health, social skills, and conflict resolution.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of counseling sessions and student progress.
- Serve as a liaison between students, families, and community resources to enhance support systems.
- Participate in school-wide initiatives and committees to promote student well-being and engagement.
- Provide crisis intervention and support to students and families in emergency situations.
- Stay informed about current best practices in school counseling and mental health resources.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in School Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field or willing to work towards certification.
- Valid state certification or licensure in school counseling or social work.
- Experience working with K-5 students in a school setting preferred.
- Strong understanding of child development, counseling techniques, and mental health issues.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with students, families, and staff.
- Commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment.
- Proficient in using technology and software for record-keeping and communication.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
