Kennel Assistant (Summer)

As a Kennel Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional care and support for our furry visitors. This energetic position offers an exciting opportunity to work closely with dogs, ensuring they are happy, healthy, and comfortable during their stay. You will be an essential part of a dedicated team committed to animal welfare, delivering hands-on care and fostering a safe, clean environment for pets and staff alike. This paid summer role is perfect for animal lovers looking to gain valuable experience in pet care. This is a physical role sometimes requiring long days. You will NOT be playing with dogs all day. Responsibilities include: cleaning (45%), bathing (5%), administrative (5%), and supervising dogs (45%).

*Must have Reliable Transportation. Punctuality is essential to this role

*Availability required on weekends and holidays

Duties

• Manage and maintain a safe, clean, calm, and fun playroom
• Address dog behavioral issues proactively through your understanding of dog language & behavior. Use redirection, recall, and basic training methods, but will NEVER include using physical force or punishment. Zero-tolerance for mistreatment of animals.
• Continually monitor play areas and spot clean (picking up poo and mopping pee)
• Maintain cleanliness of kennels by performing regular cleaning tasks including, but not limited to, vacuuming, mopping, scrubbing kennels, beds, and toys.
• Monitor the health and behavior of animals, reporting any concerns to management
• Assist with animal restraint during grooming as needed.
• Help with heavy lifting tasks related to animal care, such as moving supplies or large dogs.
• Occasional administrative tasks.

Qualifications

• Previous experience with dog training or handling is highly desirable.
• Ability to handle animals safely using proper restraint techniques; experience in animal handling is preferred.
• Ability to handle dogs of various sizes and temperaments confidently.
• Must be able to work on your feet for long periods and able to lift up to 50lbs.
• Familiarity with kennel operations, including cleaning protocols and pet grooming practices.
• Prior kennel experience or veterinary assistant experience will be considered an asset.
