GhostLight Arts Initiative is calling for a Key Art Artist & Graphic Designer for its 2025-2026 season.

ABOUT:

GhostLight Creative Productions (GLP) is a Detroit-based arts and media company dedicated to amplifying Black voices through theatre, streaming, and community engagement.

GLP team members collaborate across a wide range of programming throughout the season. This includes the Obsidian Theatre Festival, the GhostLight Arts Initiative’s Detroit IMPACT Arts Conference, the annual GhostLight Fundraising Gala, GLP events and affiliated programs. By working across these platforms, staff contribute to both the artistic and social impact goals of the organization.

GHOSTLIGHT PROGRAMMING:

The GhostLight Arts Initiative is a non-profit organization dedicated to the use of the creative, performing, and media arts as catalysts for social progress. Our goal is to leverage every artistic avenue to create a tangible and sustainable impact across social and cultural systems.

The Obsidian Theatre Festival centers Black stories, through an invigorating celebration of new work by emerging Black voices. Produced by Detroiters in the city of Detroit, the Obsidian Theatre Festival illuminates the rich diversity of experiences relevant to the African diaspora.

POSITION SUMMARY:

A Key Art Artist & Graphic Designer with experience in Theatre and Musical Theatre. BIPOC artists are strongly encouraged to submit. They will support our Marketing Director to create and deliver superior graphic designs for the GhostLight Creative Production (GLP) season.

  • A candidate who is flexible, strategic and able to work in a collaborative space.
  • A candidate who is skilled in communicating clearly, with tact and discretion, as well as maintaining confidentiality.
  • Candidates within close proximity to Detroit Metro area are strongly preferred
  • This position reports to the Marketing Director.

They will need to be able to create and maintain resources and networks for success and collaboration both internally and externally. We are looking for an enthusiastic candidate who demonstrates outstanding communication, leadership and organizational skills. Attention to detail is a must.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The Key Art Artist & Graphic Designer will report to the Marketing Director
  • Attend a weekly virtual Marketing meeting as assigned by the Marketing Director
  • Provide support to the Marketing team by supporting in the development and execution of GhostLight Creative Production’s graphic design needs
  • Develop creative assets for various and sometimes simultaneous projects, including but not limited to illustrations, website graphics, social media graphics, email blasts, GLP signage etc.
  • Create key art for the OTF (Mainstage/Cabaret), Conference and Gala productions
  • Including any needed graphics for GLP contracted events
  • Update past graphic templates for marketing purposes
  • Contribute to layout, typography, and photography decisions
  • Be able to take in constructive criticism and produce quality work
  • Perform office management tasks such as tracking your task progress on GLP’s task management platform. Google Suite experience is a plus.
  • When in person, create needed graphics (in time) for the in person events.
  • Maintain the graphic project calendar for the season
  • Assist with visual branding needs
  • Provide exemplary and flexible Communication skills across multiple formats and departments in a timely manner.
  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working on a variety of projects such as musicals, straight plays, cabarets and new work is preferred
  • Familiarity and/or working knowledge of Non-Profit, Commercial, Regional or Touring Theatrical productions
  • Adobe Photoshop preferred
  • Skill level: Intermediate to Expert
  • Experience in brand guardianship, including visual consistency and tone of voice.
  • Strong organizational, time management and administrative skills
  • Outstanding judgment and ability to prioritize varying tasks efficiently and safely
  • Skilled in communicating clearly, with tact and discretion, as well as maintaining confidentiality.
  • Strong understanding of digital marketing and social media best practices, including website and email design and segmentation
  • Excellent proofreading skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Superior deadline management skills, with an ability to work independently
  • Ability to work under pressure while multitasking multiple projects
  • Able to coordinate timely responses between internal departments
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • High level of computer proficiency with knowledge of Google Suite.

SCHEDULE/LOCATION:

Immediate start date through July 10, 2026 with flexible work from home prior to production weeks and following the in person production dates.

Estimated workload averages 5-10 hours a week prior to production week and 15-30 hours during the tech/production weeks.

In Person Rehearsal (Reading/Gala): Starts June 16th

Begin In Person Work (in the GLP designated office space): Mid June TBD

Theatre Load In: June 22nd

Main Stage Tech: June 23rd-26th

Gala Dress: June 24th

Gala Tech/Performance: June 25th

IMPACT Conference: June 25th-27th

Main Stage Performances: June 27th & June 28th

OTF Cabaret: June 28th

No Audience Film Captures: June 30th & July 1st

Strike/Load Out: July 1st-2nd

COMPENSATION:

Flat Fee: $4,000.00 (USD)
