VPK Preschool Teacher

Position Status: Non-Exempt
Work Schedule: Full-Time, Monday – Friday
Reports To: Preschool Director

VPK Statutory Requirements & Qualifications

To meet Florida VPK standards, the candidate must possess one of the following "Lead Teacher" credentials:

• A Child Development Associate (CDA) issued by the Council for Professional Recognition OR a Florida Child Care Professional Credential (FCCPC).

• An Associate’s degree or higher in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, or a related field.

• Required Training: Must have completed the 40-hour introductory childcare training and the 5-hour VPK Emergent Literacy course required by the State of Florida.

Primary Responsibilities

• Curriculum & Instruction: Develops and implements age-appropriate educational activities using Florida-approved VPK curricula to ensure kindergarten readiness.

• Child Development: Maintains a positive mindset toward child learning and social-emotional development while facilitating problem-solving skills.

• Classroom Management: Manages small and large groups efficiently within Florida-mandated teacher-to-student ratios (1:11 for VPK).

• Safety & Compliance: Invests in students’ health and safety while adhering to school protocols and Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) regulations.

• Family Partnership: Communicates effectively with families and partners with parents/caregivers to support the child’s educational journey.

• Modeling: Serves as a consistent role model for child learners in both behavior and academic engagement.
