Salary: $55,000–$80,000 base salary (commensurate with experience) + tiered commission on gross profit (starting at 1%, increasing by 0.5% per project sold per month – uncapped!) + performance bonuses. We're seeking an experienced Kitchen & Bath Cabinet Designer with proven Design Flex proficiency to join our growing team, handle full-cycle projects (design to sales to handoff/oversight), and drive business growth through creative designs and proactive sales.
This role combines expert design using Design Flex with sales acumen – no pure sales-only applicants; we need someone who can create build-ready designs and close deals.
Key Responsibilities
- Consult with walk-in, form-fill, and proactive leads to understand needs, budgets, and visions for kitchen/bath projects.
- Conduct showroom tours, in-home consultations, and on-site measurements.
- Create detailed, accurate designs using Design Flex (formerly 2020 Design/2020 Design Live) software – including layouts, 3D renderings, perspectives, appliance integrations, hardware/finishes upselling, and full design packets.
- Select layouts, cabinet lines (e.g., KCD, Fabuwood, Plain and Fancy), door styles, colors, and add-ons while ensuring designs are practical, installation-ready, and aligned with 55%+ target gross margins.
- Place orders, check specs, and collaborate on timelines with clients, installers, contractors, and factories.
- Sell projects proactively (generate/follow up leads, network with contractors/builders/realtors, attend events, manage social media outreach).
- Collect Retainers to initiate projects; oversee quality assurance, remeasures, troubleshooting, and job site visits as needed.
- Maintain records in CRM, deliver 5-star client experiences, and contribute to team growth (guidance for juniors as we expand).
- Occasional evenings/weekends for client meetings, events, or site visits.
Requirements – Must-Have
- 3+ years of hands-on experience using Design Flex (formerly 2020 Design / 2020 Design Live) – proficiency in creating full kitchen/bath layouts, 3D renderings, manufacturer catalog integrations, and order-ready designs required (portfolio/examples mandatory).
- Proven track record in kitchen/bath design and sales (closing high-ticket projects $30K+).
- Strong knowledge of cabinetry materials, processes, national brands, appliances, and installation considerations.
- Excellent communication, client consultation, and proactive lead generation skills (cold outreach, networking).
- Ability to read blueprints, perform accurate field measurements, and hand-sketch as needed.
- Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, professional appearance (business casual/professional).
- Background check and reference verification required.
Preferred
- 3+ years of recent experience in the kitchen industry.
- Hands-on installation oversight or troubleshooting experience.
- Familiarity with high-end appliance brands (e.g., Sub-Zero, Wolf, Poggenpohl), European-style cabinetry, and/or portfolio of kitchens designed and approximate cost.
- Existing Northern Virginia network (builders, architects, realtors).
Compensation & Earnings Potential Your earnings grow with your performance – base provides stability, but commissions scale directly with monthly project volume (no cap – close more, earn more!).
- Base Salary: $55,000–$80,000 annually (paid bi-weekly; higher end for exceptional experience/sales history).
- Commission: Starts at 1% of gross profit per sold and installed cabinet project (paid monthly upon final payment/project completion and alignment with 5-star standards). Increases by 0.5% per project sold in the same month (e.g., 1 project = 1%, 2 = 1.5%, 3 = 2%, etc.) – uncapped incentive for consistent closers!
- Bonuses: Quarterly performance bonuses for exceeding targets, high customer ratings, and pipeline growth (potential up to $3,000/quarter, similar to team structure).
- Total Compensation: Realistic Year 1: $90,000–$120,000+ (base + commissions). Top performers (4–6+ projects/month at average $30K–$40K value): $150,000+ or more – your Design Flex expertise and sales effort determine your unlimited upside!
