Kitchen Equipment Technician

Responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing a wide range of kitchen equipment used in commercial and industrial settings. This includes refrigeration units, ovens, stoves, grills, fryers, dishwashers, and other appliances. The technician ensures that kitchen equipment is in optimal working condition, performs regular inspections, troubleshoots issues, and conducts necessary repairs to minimize downtime and ensure the smooth operation of the kitchen.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Installation and Setup: Install and set up new kitchen equipment according to manufacturer specifications and industry standards. Ensure proper placement, connection, and calibration of appliances for efficient and safe operation.

2. Maintenance and Inspection: Conduct routine maintenance tasks on kitchen equipment to ensure their longevity and optimal performance. This includes cleaning, lubricating, and replacing parts as needed. Perform regular inspections to identify potential issues or safety hazards.

3. Troubleshooting and Repair: Diagnose malfunctions or breakdowns in kitchen equipment and determine the appropriate repair solutions. This may involve identifying faulty components, electrical problems, leaks, or mechanical issues. Repair or replace defective parts and conduct necessary adjustments to restore functionality.

4. Preventive Maintenance: Develop and implement a preventive maintenance schedule for kitchen equipment to prevent breakdowns and minimize downtime. Perform regular inspections, cleaning, and calibration to ensure equipment is operating at peak efficiency.

5. Safety and Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols and regulations while working on kitchen equipment. Ensure compliance with industry standards and codes related to electrical, gas, and sanitation requirements.

6. Documentation: Maintain accurate records of equipment maintenance, repairs, and inspections. Document service logs, parts used, work performed, and any recommendations for future actions. Ensure all documentation is up to date and accessible for reference.

7. Inventory and Spare Parts Management: Keep track of inventory levels for spare parts and order supplies as needed. Maintain an organized inventory system and ensure critical spare parts are readily available to minimize equipment downtime.

8. Training and Support: Provide training and support to kitchen staff on the proper operation and maintenance of equipment. Educate users on best practices, safety procedures, and troubleshooting techniques to prevent avoidable issues.

9. Collaboration: Coordinate with kitchen managers, suppliers, and external service providers to resolve complex issues or arrange for specialized repairs. Communicate effectively with stakeholders to ensure timely and efficient equipment maintenance and repairs.

10. Stay Updated: Keep abreast of the latest industry trends, technological advancements, and regulations pertaining to kitchen equipment. Attend relevant training sessions or workshops to enhance knowledge and skills.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Technical certifications in relevant fields are preferred.
  • Proven experience as a technician in the kitchen equipment industry or a similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial kitchen equipment, including refrigeration, cooking, and dishwashing appliances.
  • Familiarity with electrical, gas, and plumbing systems relevant to kitchen equipment.
  • Solid troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
  • Physical stamina and dexterity to handle equipment repairs and installations.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to different locations as needed. (Preferred)
