Job Summary: The Executive Producer is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the station’s newscasts, ensuring that the news content aligns with the company’s editorial standards and viewer expectations. The EP works closely with producers, reporters, anchors, and directors to ensure the highest quality of newscasts and other related programming. This position involves planning, supervising, and executing all phases of newscast production, while also providing leadership, creative vision, and problem-solving expertise.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the development and execution of daily newscasts, ensuring content is compelling, accurate, and relevant to the audience.
  • Collaborate with producers and reporters to generate story ideas, establish news angles, and ensure balanced coverage of local, state, and national events.
  • Provide guidance and feedback to producers, anchors, and reporters to improve storytelling, pacing, and news delivery.
  • Ensure that breaking news, live events, and special coverage are handled effectively, with the appropriate resources allocated.
  • Monitor newscasts for quality control, including editorial integrity, technical execution, and adherence to brand guidelines.
  • Manage the daily editorial meeting and assist in setting the agenda for the day’s news coverage.
  • Work closely with digital teams to ensure cross-platform coordination, including social media and web.
  • Analyze ratings and other audience feedback to make informed decisions about content, format, and future newscasts.
  • Serve as a mentor to newsroom staff, helping to develop talent and foster an environment of teamwork and creativity.
  • Ensure compliance with all FCC regulations and journalistic standards, including ethical reporting and fair coverage.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned, including driving an automobile for company business.

Job Schedule: This is a full-time position primarily working 40 hours per week. You may also be called upon at times to fill in other hours and days of the week to help cover vacations, illnesses, breaking news, severe weather, or special projects/events. This position is not eligible to work remotely.

Skills and Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or related field. Related experience will be evaluated by and may be substituted as years of education.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in a newsroom environment, with at least 2 years in a producing or supervisory role.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent editorial judgment and in-depth knowledge of news production and storytelling techniques. Must have excellent writing and coaching skills.
  • Ability to lead and inspire a team in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, make quick and appropriate decisions, and gain the cooperation of others.
  • Strong knowledge of social media and digital news strategies.
  • Familiarity with newsroom systems and broadcast production equipment.
  • Must have, or be able to obtain, a valid Oklahoma driver’s license and have a driving record acceptable to the company.
  • Ability to perform other job-related duties as assigned.
