Lab Pack Technician/Specialist

Position Summary:

Function is to provide Laboratory Packing Services (Lab Pack) within the Technical Services & Field Services departments, ensuring compliance with all Responsible Care® Management System codes and initiatives.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Take ownership of Lab-Pack project execution from estimation through completion, driving the success of projects valued between $500,000 and $2 million annually.
  • Conduct site visits, chemical inventories, and sampling efforts to ensure accuracy in project planning while continually building technical expertise.
  • Manage the execution of 5–10 Lab-Packs per month, with flexibility to adapt based on fluctuations in monthly sales activity and project volume.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for lab packing projects, assisting Account Managers and Project Managers to complete lab pack projects, ensuring clear communication with the customer and coordination with internal teams to maintain safe and efficient operations.
  • Handles identification, inventory, characterization, sorting, and packing of waste in compliance with regulatory (DOT, RCRA, TSCA, etc.) and disposal facility requirements.
  • Prepares waste for shipments including sampling, segregating, packing, and assisting with the documentation and transportation from the customer site in accordance with all government, customer, facility, and Eldredge policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for maintaining inventory and ordering of packaging supplies.
  • Responsible for working within the Technical Services division to complete a review of Eldredge and 3rd party prepared packing slips, data entry, DOT packing and shipping compliance, specific facility requirements.
  • Coordinate and manage (under the supervision of the Technical Services Manager) lab pack approval processes throughout the entire project or on an on-going basis for routine clients.
  • Complete desktop “paper” packing, inventory disposal estimates, quantification and qualification of customer chemical and waste inventories for packing.
  • Assist with preparing proposals and calculation sheets for all projects involving Lab-Packing, and other various Onsite Services.
  • Support the completion of Lab-Packs alongside Field Service Technicians and Eldredge trained personnel.
  • Utilize required technology and equipment for efficient lab-packing.
  • Assist in training new technicians and support the ongoing development of fellow employees to improve lab packing skills as needed.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and recommend changes to lab packing processes, equipment, or systems to enhance safety, efficiency, and service quality.
  • Collaborate with Eldredge’s Operations and Technical Services Teams to assist in scheduling customer pickups, preparing Waste Profiles, and supporting Technical Services in identifying the best recycling or disposal options for customer waste, while consistently communicating client needs to other departments to help ensure timely, quality service.
  • Provide support for shipping document reviews, waste labeling, waste sampling, in-site services at customer locations including RCRA inspections and waste compliance support.
  • Assist the process of waste profiling and approvals for Eldredge, Inc’s non-hazardous waste facility and 3rd party waste or recycling facilities.
  • Assist in communication between various departments to complete jobs in a timely manner. Departments include but are not limited to: Plant (Residual Waste Processing Facility), Transportation (including 10-day in-transit facility), Operations, Sales, & Safety.
  • Provide communications with the customer regarding Lab Pack work progress and customer satisfaction.
  • Assist with role relevant customer/data entry into appropriate databases (Microsoft Office, Wastebits, etc.)
  • Ensure the safety of the work completed by adhering to the environmental, health & safety policies and procedures and identifying any potentially unsafe conditions or procedures.
  • Develop specific lab pack and chemical safety handling procedures, plans, guidelines, etc. as needed for project specific and site-specific safety concerns.
  • Commitment to general teamwork in support of all aspects of daily activities to ensure profitability and sustained growth of the Corporation.
  • Ensure proper housekeeping to maintain safe, efficient and clean work areas, including all customer sites.
  • Operate equipment, such as company vehicles, pickup trucks, forklift, etc.
  • Special projects and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3-4 years’ lab packing experience with Bachelor’s degree or greater from an accredited institution or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience preferred. While a specific degree is not mandated, candidates with backgrounds in parallel industries such as construction, waste disposal, environmental services, consulting, or transportation are encouraged to apply.
  • Must be able to travel regularly, including overnight stays, as required to support field operations and customer needs.

  • Must have a valid US driver's license

Physical Requirements:

  • Successfully complete a drug screen and pre-employment physical.
  • Ability to work in variable weather conditions.
  • Requires walking on uneven ground while visiting job sites.
  • May occasionally require lifting up to 70 lbs., pulling and/or pushing and carrying.
  • Climbing, walking, standing, sitting, lifting, pulling/pushing, carrying, grasping, reaching, crawling, stooping, and crouching.
  • Color perception (Red, Green, Amber).
  • Sitting for extended periods of time.
  • Physically able to participate in training sessions, presentations, and meetings.
  • Overtime may be required to meet project deadlines.
