Lab Technician

Description:

Standard AOCS, ASTM, AOAC Methods Laboratory analysis, Sample plant tanks, in processing lines, tanker trucks, shipping containers using aforementioned methods, Report generation, reports to proper Departments, logging all Documents, informing recipients of analysis of any out of spec items, all while following all OSHA safety protocols safely and effectively.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Conduct analysis on samples from plant production, trucks, railcars, and from outside divisions
• Communicate with Marketing and Plant Production to inform of results and additional testing that may be required
• Conduct daily maintenance on analytical equipment or as required
• Assist in Sampler duties as required
• Maintain and clean Laboratory for a clean and well-organized work place
• Wear all proper safety apparel or equipment as needed and trained
• Maintain and order Laboratory supplies as needed from the stock room or outside vendor
• Communicate daily with Department Managers and Supervisors
• Work schedule varies; additional shifts/hours must be worked (sometimes on short or no notice)
• Cleaning of laboratory equipment and facility
• Washing lab dishes
• Inventory of chemicals and samples from sales
• Climbing onto various types of equipment such as tanks, tanker trucks, and railroad cars
• Must be flexible with hours.
• Sampling various products from the production area.
• Must be able to multitask.
• Update activity logs on a daily basis
• Interact with others in a professional and ethical manner
• Follow department and company procedures
• Keep up regular attendance and punctuality; regular attendance and punctuality are essential for the smooth operation of this company
• Other duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective operation of the business. These responsibilities may change from time to time are business needs evolve over time.

Requirements:

• High School diploma
• Must be able to climb stairs and not be afraid of heights
• One to two years of experience preferred
• Able to operate basic office equipment
• Less than 5% travel

Physical Demands/Requirements:

Constantly (over 2/3):

• Exposed to work in outdoor weather conditions
• Moves across wet/slippery and uneven surfaces
• Ascends/descends heights while maintaining balance
• Utilizes tools and equipment such as a shovel to move material
• Review documents, organizes data and detects accuracy of information, trace product through documentation
• Communicates with customers and co-workers and exchanges accurate information in-person, telephonically and via electronic devices/e-mail
• Moves materials or documents up to 25 lbs.
• Must be able to position self to perform duties around industrial equipment and materials that are hot or hazardous chemical materials
• Electronically and manually completes logs/reports

Frequently (1/3-2/3):

• Remain in a stationary position for 50% or more of the time

Occasionally (under 1/3):

• Operates computer and other office productivity machinery such as calculator, copy machine and printer.
• Moves throughout office accessing files, office machinery, etc.
• Move and transport materials up to 50-100 lbs. with or without specialized lifting, moving and rigging equipment
• Detect and observe conditions that need to be addressed such as equipment that needs to be painted or materials that need to be moved/removed
