Job Overview
The Lab Technician applies technical skills and knowledge to support daily laboratory operations, including test execution, equipment qualification, test method validation (TMV) development, and engineering projects. This role performs bench-level engineering tests, contributes to design verification (DV), stability studies, feasibility testing, and test method development (TMD). The technician works under moderate supervision and develops proficiency in specialized lab functions.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute moderately complex test requests with minimal assistance, including DV, stability, feasibility, and TMD activities.
- Handle routine and minimally complex problems autonomously with limited supervisor support.
- Review and support test requests to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Support equipment qualification (IQ, OQ) and TMV development.
- Assist verification/validation (Ver/Val) teams with testing needs.
- Troubleshoot and resolve inconsistencies in test requests with requestors.
- Coordinate and/or lead test requests when assigned by a supervisor.
- Develop proficiency in one or more specialized lab functions, such as:
- Environmental chamber supervision
- Aging program coordination
- Equipment maintenance
- Calibration coordination
- Test procedure maintenance
- Tool and fixture design
- EHS representation
- Maintain compliance with Good Documentation Practices (GDP) and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
- Support efforts to streamline and simplify laboratory testing processes.
Requirements
- Education: Associate’s degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, or related technical field; or equivalent experience. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Experience: 2+ years of laboratory experience, preferably in engineering, medical device, or manufacturing environments.
- Technical Skills:
- Hands-on experience performing laboratory tests and operating test equipment.
- Familiarity with equipment qualification (IQ, OQ), TMV development, and test method documentation.
- Knowledge of DV, feasibility, stability, and TMD processes.
- Ability to read, follow, and update test procedures and technical documentation.
- Problem-Solving: Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve test discrepancies with minimal supervision.
- Specialized Knowledge (a plus): Experience with environmental chambers, calibration processes, tool/fixture design, or lab maintenance.
- Compliance: Understanding of Good Documentation Practices (GDP), Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), and Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) standards.
- Soft Skills: Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team setting.
