Lab Technician

POSITION SUMMARY

Superior Industries is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Lab Technician to join our materials testing and mechanical lab team. This hands-on position combines precision machining, materials preparation, and mechanical/fatigue testing in a fast-paced laboratory environment. The ideal candidate thrives in a technical setting, enjoys working with their hands, and takes pride in producing high-quality, accurate test results.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

· Reports to local Engineering Manager

LOCATION

Fayetteville, Arkansas

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Set up and conduct various fatigue tests (Rotary, Radial, etc.) according to internal procedures
  • Perform dye penetrant inspections (liquid penetrant testing) on components and specimens
  • Prepare test specimens by machining and polishing materials to exact specifications
  • Operate, program, and maintain laboratory and shop equipment, including: Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) for dimensional inspection and verification
  • Safely operate forklifts to move materials, fixtures, and test specimens
  • Schedule and document routine calibration and maintenance of all lab equipment (load frames, extensometers, furnaces, CMM, hardness testers, etc.)
  • Record, analyze, and report test data accurately
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory and shop environment
  • Assist engineers with custom test fixture design and fabrication when needed
  • Follow all safety protocols and contribute to continuous improvement of lab processes

QUALIFICATIONS

· Hands-on experience operating manual and/or CNC lathes and mills, band saws, surface grinders, and general machine shop practice

· Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills

· Basic computer skills (MS Office, data entry, ability to learn lab software)

· Excellent attention to detail and commitment to accuracy

· Must be physically able to lift and carry object weighing up to 50 pounds

PREFERRED

· Experience in materials testing or metallurgical laboratory

· Basic GD&T knowledge

· Proven ability to operate and program a Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) – experience with PC-DMIS

· Current or recent forklift certification

· Experience preparing and polishing metallographic samples

· Familiarity with dye penetrant testing

Pay: $42,000.00 - $47,000.00 per year
