Lab Technician - Chemical/Chemistry Background (1st shift)

This position REQUIRES lab/chemistry experience. In addition, a degree or background in chemistry is preferred.

The Chemical Laboratory Technician is responsible for performing routine and non-routine chemical analyses to support production, process control, and product quality. The technician prepares, tests, and maintains chemical solutions, plating baths, and samples, ensuring that laboratory results meet accuracy, safety, and compliance standards.

Attention to Detail: Performing tests requires exact measurements and a good eye for detail, or the results could be false.

Dexterity: Lab techs work with their hands and will need dexterity to work with small vials, test tubes, and delicate lab equipment.

Stamina: Lab technicians work long days on their feet, sometimes hunched over a workstation for long periods of time.

Technical Skill: Lab techs need to understand complex lab machinery and computer programs used to conduct tests. Perform chemical analysis to satisfy process control needs for the corporation and maintain systems accreditation. Perform special lab testing functions in support of new process development and applications evaluations

Position Requirements:

• Must be at least 18 years of age or older
• Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen
• College degree or excellent knowledge of chemistry a plus
• Previous experience with chemicals
• Self-Motivated and highly results-oriented
• Ability to read engineering drawings, blueprints, shop orders, sketches, and schematics is necessary to the completion of tasks or work
• Must have solid math skills
• Must also possess good reading, writing, and communication skills
• Must possess trouble shooting skills and a willingness to learn
• Must be able to stand, walk on uneven surfaces, bend, twist, reach overhead and climb stairs
• Must possess visual acuity to read documentation, computer screens and observe parts and processes for visual issues
• Must have hearing capacity to monitor sounds for changes in environment and/or equipment, announcements over the paging system or safety warnings/alerts.

Work Environment

Production and shop floor areas can be very humid during certain times of the year. Employees are provided training and personal protective equipment when working around chemicals, dust, and fumes. Safety and Environmental systems are in place to meet or exceed requirements from EPA and OSHA. We have active cross functional safety and continuous improvement teams. All team members will be exposed to the shop floor environment on occasion. They must be prepared for and properly equipped (both clothing restrictions and personal protective equipment requirements) to enter such areas. Normal shop environment may require the use of hearing protection, safety glasses, dust mask or respirator, ANSI approved safety-toe footwear as well as other personal protective gear as required when working with chemicals.
