Lab Technician Soil Testing

Key Responsibilities:

  • Sample Handling: Receive, log, prepare, and process soil samples according to standard procedures.
  • Testing & Analysis: Perform various lab tests, including:
  • Moisture Content
  • Sieve Analysis (Particle Size Distribution)
  • Atterberg Limits (Plasticity)
  • pH, Nutrient, and Organic Matter analysis
  • Tests for contaminants or specific engineering properties.
  • Equipment Operation: Use and maintain specialized laboratory equipment like ovens, scales, sieves, and testing apparatus.
  • Data Management: Accurately record, compile, and log test results, often using software.
  • Reporting: Assist engineers or scientists by providing clear, detailed reports of findings.
  • Field Support (Optional): Conduct field tests (e.g., nuclear density, compaction) and collect samples as needed.
  • Safety & Compliance: Adhere to laboratory safety protocols (HSE) and environmental regulations.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Education: Diploma or Degree in Soil Science, Environmental Science, Geology, or related field.
  • Experience: Previous experience in soil or material testing.
  • Technical Skills: Knowledge of ASTM/AASHTO testing standards, familiarity with lab equipment.
  • Soft Skills: Strong attention to detail, analytical skills, good communication, ability to work independently and in a team, problem-solving.
