Position Summary
The Laboratory Infrastructure Technician plays a critical role in ensuring the operational readiness and integrity of equipment across both our R&D (Carlsbad) and biomanufacturing facilities (San Diego). This position serves as the internal subject matter expert for laboratory instrumentation, maintaining equipment performance, leading hands-on user training, and contributing technical insight to purchasing decisions. Key Responsibilities
Equipment Maintenance & Operations
- Perform routine preventive maintenance, calibration, and qualification of laboratory and biomanufacturing equipment in accordance with SOPs and manufacturer specifications
- Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and coordinate repair or service with vendors; maintain accurate service records
- Ensure equipment compliance with applicable regulatory requirements (GMP, GLP, ISO, as relevant)
- Maintain equipment logs, calibration schedules, and maintenance documentation
Training & User Support
- Serve as the primary trainer for new and existing staff on proper use of laboratory instrumentation across both facilities
- Develop and maintain equipment training materials, SOPs, and quick-reference guides
- Provide ongoing technical guidance and hands-on support to laboratory personnel
Procurement Advisory
- Evaluate new equipment needs in collaboration with scientific and operations leadership
- Research vendors, prepare comparative analyses, and provide recommendations on capital equipment purchases
- Manage relationships with equipment vendors and service contract providers; track warranties and service agreements
Facilities Coordination
- Coordinate equipment placement, installation, and qualification activities for both R&D and biomanufacturing spaces
- Maintain an accurate equipment inventory across all sites
- Support audit readiness by ensuring equipment records are complete and current
Qualifications
Required
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a life science, engineering, or related technical field
- 3–5 years of hands-on experience with laboratory equipment in a biotech, pharmaceutical, or clinical research environment
- Demonstrated experience in maintaining and troubleshooting scientific instrumentation
- Familiarity with GMP and/or GLP environments
- Strong attention to detail and documentation habits
- Excellent communication skills; comfortable training individuals at varying technical levels
Preferred
- Experience supporting both R&D and manufacturing environments
- Background in cell therapy, biologics, or regenerative medicine
- Experience managing vendor relationships and equipment service contracts
- Familiarity with equipment qualification (IQ/OQ/PQ) processes
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
- Prolonged periods of standing, bending, and working at lab benches
- Ability to work in environments requiring PPE (lab coat, gloves, safety glasses)
- Manual dexterity required for handling laboratory instruments and small components
- Occasional movement between facilities (San Marcos and San Diego locations)
Pay: $50,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
