Laboratory Technician (PT)

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Vocational Certificate with an emphasis in Welding or closely related field.
  • 3 months of experience

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assists Instructor in Welding labs to oversee students in operation of lab equipment in compliance with all safety procedures, as well as, College rules and guidelines.
  • Prepares/sets up lab for classes; includes cutting material, setting up shop equipment, and maintaining cutting tool inventory.
  • Maintains equipment maintenance records for area of responsibility; cleans and checks lab equipment periodically to ensure optimal functioning.
  • Follow and carry out assignments given by the department Assistant Chair.
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned and directed by the President of their designee.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Must be able to relate and work with faculty and students individually and in groups.
  • Exercises good judgment and communicates effectively both orally and written.
  • Must have strong organizational skills and ability to work in multi-task environments and maintain positive customer relations.
  • Ability to supervise students in a lab environment; and have welding knowledge and skills.
  • Demonstrate tool functions and safety procedures as well as maintain, repair and handle tools and tool supplies.
  • Ability to do sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time, exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a recurring basis, and routine keyboard operations.
