Under the direction of the Distribution System Supervisor, this position acts as crew member for tasks assigned which may include troubleshooting, making repairs to and replacing water mains, valves, hydrants and service lines.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Serves as crew member for tasks assigned which may include locating, removing and replacing lead service lines, diagnose system problems such as water leaks, hydrant issues, and street failures, pavement and landscape removal and restoration as required for construction and repair tasks.
Operate equipment needed on preventative maintenance, emergency repair and replacement of water system apparatus which may include hand tools, survey instruments, pneumatic tools, trucks, trailers, loaders, and excavators
Operate other equipment used by the utility.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Participates with other Distribution System employees as a call person who requires a 30-minute response time and 24 hour availability during each rotation, participates in emergency call-ins, and works overtime as required.
Use the Utility’s GIS, electronic mapping software and database for record keeping, and diagnostics related to various duties and responsibilities.
Perform accurate electronic record keeping as required by the Utility.
Distribution system tool and equipment maintenance, snow removal, grass cutting, general site and building maintenance.
Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma or Equivalent.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Must have valid driver’s license.
Obtain Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicle’s Commercial Drivers License Learners Permit within 60 days of hire.
Obtain Class B w/Air Brakes CDL within 180 days of hire.
Be or become familiar with materials and equipment used in construction and maintenance of the water distribution system.
Have legible handwriting and ability to communicate clearly and concisely in both orally and in writing.
PHYSICAL, MENTAL, AND VISUAL SKILLS
Ability to be mobile in a variety of work environments, including climbing steps, ladders and entry of confined spaces.
Possesses sufficient physical strength and agility to perform infrequent lifting up to 90 lbs to waist and carry for short distances.
Ability to reach overhead, bend down, walk, climb or crawl to access, inspect and maintain equipment.
Alert mind, retentive memory, and capable of understanding and following both written and verbal instructions.
Must be able to work in a team environment with employees and supervisors.
Must be able to communicate effectively, coherently, and respectfully with the public under all circumstances.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is done during a scheduled 40 hour work week with required overtime as needed.
Work takes place primarily outdoors in all weather conditions including inclement weather such as hot, cold, wet, snow or darkness.

Background checks producing acceptable BMV and criminal history reports required.
