Lactation Consultant

Job Overview

This is an in-person position, visiting clients in their home.

Will only consider someone who can cover NJ.

We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable IBCLC Lactation Consultant to provide expert guidance and support to new mothers in their breastfeeding journey. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of lactation, anatomy, and pediatrics, and will be committed to promoting the health and well-being of both mothers and infants. This role involves working closely with families, offering personalized consultations, and delivering educational presentations to enhance breastfeeding practices within the community.

Other specialties preferred: post partum doula, SLP, nutritionist, therapists, etc.

IBCLC certificate required

Responsibilities

  • Conduct one-on-one consultations with mothers to assess breastfeeding challenges and provide tailored solutions.
  • Develop and implement individualized care plans based on the specific needs of each mother-infant pair.
  • Educate mothers on proper breastfeeding techniques, positioning, and milk supply management.
  • Provide support for mothers with special circumstances such as premature infants or medical conditions affecting breastfeeding.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care for mothers and infants.
  • Present educational workshops and seminars on breastfeeding topics to groups within the community.
  • Maintain accurate records of consultations, case management notes, and follow-up plans.
  • Stay updated on current research and best practices in lactation consulting.

Skills

  • Strong public speaking skills to effectively present information in workshops and seminars.
  • Proficiency in case management to develop comprehensive care plans for clients.
  • In-depth knowledge of anatomy related to lactation and breastfeeding physiology.
  • Multilingual abilities are a plus for communicating with diverse populations.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology relevant to maternal and infant health.
  • Experience in pediatrics is beneficial for understanding infant development needs.
  • Proficient data analysis skills to assess trends in breastfeeding practices and outcomes.
  • A solid understanding of physiology as it relates to lactation processes.

Job Type: Contract

Pay: $100.00 - $200.00 per hour
