Overview:
A Land Surveyor measures and maps land boundaries, topography, and features using specialized equipment and technology. They provide precise data used for construction projects, property boundaries, land development, and legal documentation.
Key Responsibilities Surveying & Measurement
- Conduct field surveys to establish or verify land boundaries, elevations, and contours.
- Use surveying instruments such as GPS, total stations, levels, and drones.
- Collect and record accurate spatial data for engineering, mapping, and legal purposes.
Data Analysis & Mapping
- Analyze survey results and prepare detailed maps, charts, and reports.
- Process data using CAD, GIS, and surveying software.
- Verify the accuracy of survey data, including measurements and calculations.
Legal & Boundary Determination
- Research land records, deeds, and historical documents to determine legal boundaries.
- Prepare boundary surveys, plats, and descriptions for use in property transactions and permitting.
- Provide expert testimony or documentation for boundary disputes when required.
Project Collaboration
- Coordinate with engineers, architects, contractors, and government officials.
- Provide surveying support during construction to ensure structures are correctly positioned.
- Assist in planning and development by identifying site constraints and opportunities.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or related field
- Professional Land Surveyor license or ability to obtain.
- Proficiency with surveying equipment (GPS, total station, laser scanners, drones).
- Knowledge of CAD (AutoCAD Civil 3D), GIS systems, and survey software.
- Strong math, mapping, and analytical skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to work outdoors in various conditions.
- Minimum of 3 years work experience in roads and infrastructures.
