Landscape Construction Crew Lead

Your Day & Team Looks Like:

Your day starts at 6:45 AM at our Portsmouth yard with a quick team meeting. As crew lead, you’ll help guide that meeting—checking in with team members about their assignments and making sure trucks are properly loaded for the day’s project. Once you hit the road, you’ll lead your crew on a landscape construction projects throughout coastal Rhode Island with a focus on Newport.

You’ll work closely with our Site Foreman to manage workflow, maintain quality and safety standards, and keep projects running smoothly. You’ll problem-solve on site, help plan ahead for materials and equipment, and make sure the day ends as organized as it began.

We work year-round, so you’ll stay busy in the winter as much as weather allows. During the winter, you'll get paid double your standard pay for winter storm events.

You Are:

Someone who loves being outdoors and takes pride in building things that last. You’ve spent 3–5 years in landscape construction, with experience in hardscaping, planting, and leading small teams. You can read a landscape plan, operate power tools safely, and know how to keep a crew moving efficiently. You care about craftsmanship, teamwork, and getting the details right.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Leading daily field operations on residential and commercial landscape projects.
  • Directing morning load-outs, tool prep, and daily crew meetings.
  • Reading and executing landscape plans accurately and efficiently.
  • Installing patios, walls, walkways, plantings, and other landscape features.
  • Managing 2–4 crew members to maintain pace, quality, and safety.
  • Tracking materials, project progress, and crew hours against budgets.
  • Communicating clearly with the Site Foreman and Project Manager.
  • Maintaining clean, organized trucks, tools, and job sites.
  • Reporting equipment needs and repairs promptly.
  • Upholding Hanley professional standards in craftsmanship and client communication.

Requirements:

  • 3–5 years of landscape construction experience (hardscape and masonry experience absolutely required).
  • 1–2 years of leadership or crew management experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret landscape plans.
  • Working knowledge of power tools, compact equipment, and jobsite safety.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • OSHA-10 (or ability to obtain within 30 days).
  • DOT medical card (or ability to obtain within 30 days).
  • Willingness to work outdoors year-round in all weather conditions.
  • Availability for on-call snow operations in winter with double-time pay provided for snow work.

Pay: $25.00 - $35.00 per hour
