Landscape Designer (Outdoor Living & Hardscape Specialist)

Overview
We are seeking a passionate and innovative Landscape Designer specializing in outdoor living spaces and hardscape features to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be instrumental in transforming outdoor environments into stunning, functional, sustainable retreats that enhance property value and client satisfaction. Your expertise will drive the creative process from conceptual design through detailed drafting, ensuring each project reflects both aesthetic excellence and practical durability. Responsibilities

  • Develop comprehensive landscape designs focusing on outdoor living areas, patios, walkways, retaining walls, water features, and other hardscape elements using advanced design software such as SketchUp, Rhinoceros 3D, and AutoCAD.
  • Collaborate with clients to understand their vision, needs, and budget, translating ideas into detailed plans and 3D visualizations that clearly communicate design intent.
  • Conduct site analysis including land surveying, soil assessment, drainage evaluation, and GIS mapping to inform sustainable and context-sensitive designs.
  • Prepare construction documents, including detailed drafting, specifications, and construction estimating to facilitate seamless project execution.
  • Coordinate with contractors, landscapers, civil engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure accurate implementation of design plans while maintaining project timelines and budgets.
  • Incorporate sustainable design principles such as water conservation (irrigation systems), native planting (horticulture), and eco-friendly materials into landscape solutions.
  • Oversee landscape maintenance planning post-installation to ensure longevity and optimal performance of outdoor features.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in landscape design with a focus on outdoor living spaces and hardscape features; portfolio demonstrating successful projects is preferred.
  • Proficiency in SketchUp, AutoCAD, Rhinoceros 3D, Civil 3D, Revit, MicroStation or similar CAD software for drafting and visualization.
  • Strong knowledge of GIS tools such as ArcView or ArcGIS for land analysis and mapping purposes.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator) for presentation development and client communication.
  • Solid understanding of construction processes including estimating, project management, land surveying techniques, and construction documentation.
  • Knowledge of horticulture practices relevant to native plant selection and landscape maintenance strategies.
  • Experience with civil engineering principles related to drainage systems, land grading, irrigation installation, and sustainable site development.
  • Excellent communication skills for collaborating with clients and multidisciplinary teams; ability to manage multiple projects efficiently.
  • Certification or coursework in landscaping design or related fields is a plus; familiarity with Land surveying or Civil engineering is advantageous.
