Landscape & Garden Project Lead (Hands-On, Outdoor Work)

The Sundance School, a private PreK–8 school located in Warren, New Jersey, is seeking a Landscape Designer & Project Lead to help design, plan, and guide the development of our outdoor campus environment.

This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who is passionate about landscape design and enjoys turning ideas into real, built spaces. You will work closely with the school leadership and guide on-site workers to bring designs to life.

Position Overview

We are looking for someone who can both design and execute:

• Create simple, practical landscape design plans for the campus
• Select appropriate plants based on season, maintenance level, and aesthetics
• Plan layout for flower beds, walkways, outdoor seating, and garden areas
• Guide and supervise workers during planting and landscaping work
• Ensure designs are implemented correctly and efficiently
• Improve existing areas and continuously upgrade the campus environment

Responsibilities

• Develop planting and landscape design plans (simple sketches or layouts are acceptable)
• Choose plants suitable for New Jersey climate
• Lead and direct a small team of workers on-site
• Provide step-by-step guidance for installation (planting, spacing, layout)
• Coordinate materials (plants, soil, mulch, basic supplies)
• Maintain overall visual consistency and quality of the campus landscape
• Support special projects (e.g., school garden, outdoor learning areas)

Qualifications

• Experience in landscaping, garden design, or outdoor project planning. Simple sketches or hand-drawn layouts are acceptable.
• Ability to translate ideas into clear, practical plans
• Hands-on experience with planting and outdoor work
• Leadership ability – comfortable guiding and managing workers
• Strong sense of aesthetics and organization
• Reliable, proactive, and detail-oriented
• Experience working in schools or child-friendly environments is a plus

Pay & Schedule

• $25 – $30 per hour (depending on experience and performance)
