Company Overview
West County Gardens, Inc. is hiring a versatile, hands-on field technician who can wear multiple hats: lawn/tree applications (fertilization & spraying), irrigation service, landscape lighting installs/repairs, and general “handyman” tasks as needed. This is a key role for someone who likes variety, takes pride in quality work, and can work independently while still being part of a strong team.
If you’re the type who can diagnose a problem, fix it correctly, and communicate clearly with customers and the office then you’re a good fit.
1. Lawn & Tree Applications (Fertilization / Spraying)
- Apply fertilizer and control products for turf, ornamental plants, and trees/shrubs (as scheduled)
- Mix, measure, and apply products safely and accurately
- Identify common turf/plant issues (weeds, disease, insects, nutrient deficiencies)
- Keep clean application records (products, rates, locations, weather notes)
- Maintain application equipment (sprayers, spreaders, tanks, nozzles)
2. Irrigation Technician Duties
- Perform seasonal start-ups, diagnostics, repairs, and winterizations
- Troubleshoot valves, wiring, controllers, heads, leaks, coverage issues, and pressure problems
- Replace/repair sprinkler heads, drip systems, manifolds, and controllers
- Program controllers and educate customers on basic operation
- Create clean notes and recommendations for repairs/upgrades
3. Landscape Lighting Technician Duties
- Install and service low-voltage landscape lighting systems
- Troubleshoot transformers, wire runs, connections, timers/photocells, and fixtures
- Perform upgrades, re-lamps, re-aiming, and system cleanups
- Ensure neat, professional installs (buried wire, clean connections, proper load balancing)
4. Landscape Duties
- Handle a variety of tasks as needed (small repairs, minor carpentry, drainage fixes, pressure washing, hardware/fixture replacements, planting, building walls, grading etc.)
- Assist crews with landscape projects when needed (grading, planting, mulch, cleanup)
- Maintain a professional, clean jobsite and represent the company well on-site
5. What Success Looks Like
- You show up on time, prepared, and take ownership of your schedule
- You diagnose issues accurately and fix them right the first time
- You keep the customer informed and the office updated
- You work clean and organized—no sloppy installs, no messy chemical handling
- You protect the company: safety, documentation, and professionalism matter
6. Requirements
- Valid driver’s license + clean driving record (company truck may be provided)
- Strong mechanical/technical ability and problem-solving skills
- Comfortable working outdoors in all conditions
- Able to lift 50+ lbs and work on your feet all day
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
- Good communication skills (with customers and team)
7. Preferred Qualifications
- Applicator license or ability/willingness to obtain (fertilization/spraying)
- Irrigation experience (service/repair/install)
- Landscape lighting experience (low-voltage)
- Experience documenting work, taking photos, and writing clear service notes
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
8. Schedule
- Full-time, year-round (seasonal workload will vary)
- Typical Monday–Friday schedule with occasional overtime during peak season
