Landscape Maintenance Team Member / Public Works

Position Summary

The Landscape Maintenance Team Member performs a variety of grounds maintenance and public works duties to support the upkeep of city properties, parks, drainage systems, rights-of-way, and public facilities. This position involves operating landscaping equipment, assisting with special events, maintaining public spaces, and responding to emergency situations as needed.

Starting Pay

Starting pay is $16.35 per hour.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Operate landscaping and grounds maintenance equipment, including:
• Zero-turn mowers
• Edgers
• String trimmers
• Hedge trimmers
• Blowers
• Maintain city drainage systems, parks, rights-of-way, public facilities, wastewater plant grounds, and other city-owned properties.
• Assist with setup and breakdown of special events and activities.
• Provide traffic control assistance and perform litter/debris cleanup during events and work operations.
• Respond to emergency calls during storms and inclement weather events.
• Perform general maintenance and minor repairs on machinery, tools, and equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, logs, work orders, and time sheets.
• Assist with documentation and operational support for the city wastewater treatment facility.
• Follow all workplace safety procedures and regulations.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Preferred: Minimum of six (6) months of experience in landscape maintenance or groundskeeping; however, training will be provided for the right candidate.
• Valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia with a clean driving record.
• Ability to obtain IMSA Work Zone Safety Certification.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physically demanding labor.
• Must be dependable, safety-conscious, and able to work effectively as part of a team.
• Employment is subject to a drug-free workplace policy.

Work Schedule

Typical work hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Additional hours may be required during peak seasons, emergencies, or special events.

Work Environment

This position requires outdoor work in a variety of weather conditions and may involve lifting, bending, standing for extended periods, and operating equipment near traffic or active work zones.
