Landside Maintenance Associate

REPORTS TO: Maintenance Superintendent /Maintenance Lead Personnel

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION

This is a skilled position involving physical labor, performing a wide variety of tasks and project assignments as directed by the Maintenance Superintendent or Maintenance Lead Personnel.

GENERAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintaining surrounding landscaped areas by mowing, trimming, watering, fertilizing, weeding, planting , irrigation repairs and distribution of pesticides, herbicides and fertilizer.
  • Visually inspects, washes, cleans and services all maintenance equipment.
  • Removes FOD from airside and landside grounds and operates powered cleaning equipment when necessary.
  • Operates equipment for maintenance activities such as, tractors, paint machines, mowers, weedeaters, backhoes, saws, and other applicable equipment.
  • Repairs and maintains airport facility grounds.
  • Maintains airport equipment including tune-ups, minor engine maintenance, washing and polishing, tires, batteries, and brakes, lubrication, and fueling.
  • Ability to learn to operate an Air to Ground Radio.
  • Works shift assignments as required, and is subject to "call back" overtime compensation during emergencies and equipment malfunctions.

REQUIREMENTS

Education

High school education or equivalent and at least four years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to read and understand written instructions, memos, and correspondence
  • Ability to add, subtract, divide, multiply, calculate percentages, area, circumference, and volume
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and the public
  • Ability to function with minimal supervision
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in given situations
  • Ability to learn airport radio communication skills

Knowledge

  • Considerable knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of all work
  • Considerable knowledge in small engine/equipment repair

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • A valid Mississippi State drivers license.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee works with landscaping equipment, chemicals, and fertilizers. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
