Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Law and Motion Attorney to join our legal team with a minimum of 4 years civil litigation experience. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in litigation and a comprehensive understanding of various legal practice areas, including general litigation, premises liability and transportation cases. This role focuses on drafting and arguing dispositive motions, discovery motions, and trial-related motions. The ideal candidate is a strong legal writer who can independently manage motion practice while working closely with handling trial attorneys. The successful attorney will play a vital role in advancing our clients' interests through effective legal advocacy and precise legal writing.
Responsibilities
- Draft and argue dispositive motions, including demurrers, motions to dismiss, motions for summary judgment, and summary adjudication;
- Prepare trial motions and briefs, including motions in limine, evidentiary motions, and special jury instructions and trial briefs;
- Conduct in-depth legal research and prepare persuasive memoranda, briefs, and supporting declarations on various issues presented in discovery;
- Analyze case strategy and identify opportunities for early resolution through motion practice;
- Collaborate with trial attorneys to ensure consistency between written motions and overall litigation strategy;
- Monitor and comply with court rules, filing deadlines, and procedural requirements;
- Stay current on developments in civil procedure and substantive law affecting transportation and general personal injury defense;
- Conduct comprehensive legal research using Westlaw and other legal research tools to support motion practice and case development;
- Prepare detailed legal memoranda, pleadings, and other court documents with clarity and precision;
- Analyze case facts and develop strategic arguments to advocate for clients effectively;
- Collaborate with attorneys and clients to understand case objectives and tailor motion strategies accordingly;
- Stay current on relevant laws, regulations, and judicial decisions affecting practice areas;
- Manage multiple cases efficiently while maintaining high-quality work product within deadlines; and
- Maintain organized case files and ensure compliance with all procedural requirements.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Admission to the state bar with active license to practice law.
- Proven experience in litigation with a focus on law and motion practice.
- Strong knowledge of diverse legal areas involved in general civil litigation defense, premises liability and transportation matters;
- Proficiency in legal research platforms such as Westlaw;
- Excellent research skills coupled with the ability to analyze complex legal issues efficiently;
- Superior writing skills with experience in legal drafting for motions and pleadings;
- Prior legal administrative experience is preferred but not required; and
- Demonstrated negotiation skills and ability to advocate effectively in court settings. Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $140,000.00 - $180,000.00 per year
