Overview

Rikka Law is a boutique technology and privacy law firm operating at the intersection of law, policy, and emerging technology. We are sourcing a contract Law Clerk on behalf of the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Georgia, an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on federal litigation experience working directly alongside Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) on criminal and civil matters.

For the right candidate, this role offers a unique window into federal law enforcement and litigation practice. You'll work on a diverse mix of complex cases, from habeas corpus and immigration matters to civil enforcement actions; while developing deep fluency in federal statutory and regulatory law. This is a meaningful, mission-driven position for an attorney who is ready to roll up their sleeves and make a real contribution to the federal justice system.

Responsibilities

  • Manage habeas corpus and immigration habeas matters, including docketing, calendaring deadlines, and drafting responses for AUSA review
  • Analyze statutes, legislative history, judicial precedents, agency rules and regulations, and law review articles as they relate to assigned cases
  • Brief AUSAs on pertinent facts, issues, and applicable case law
  • Draft correspondence, legal documents, and proposed orders for judges and magistrates
  • Identify applicable administrative, statutory, and regulatory law and flag potential defenses, violations, or causes of action
  • Stay current on developments in federal, state, and local law and proactively alert AUSAs to relevant issues
  • Other duties as assigned within scope

Qualifications

  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school and active bar license in good standing (required)
  • Minimum 1 year of post J.D. professional legal experience or equivalent relevant experience
  • Proficiency in legal research tools including Westlaw, LexisNexis, and CourtLink
  • Strong command of Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to interact professionally with judges, attorneys, agency personnel, and the public with tact and diplomacy
  • U.S. citizenship required
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a federal Public Trust background investigation clearance
  • Must be available to work on-site in Macon, GA, Monday–Friday, 8:00am–5:00pm

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $23.00 - $27.00 per hour
