Law Enforcement Park Ranger - Elephant Butte Lake State Park (EMNRD #5768+)

Overview

How does it get done?

Provide public safety and customer service by responding to visitor needs and emergencies, such as perform rescue operations, issue citations, make arrests, take statements, conduct investigations, complete reports, and attend court. Complete daily, weekly and monthly logs and reports. Request and attend law enforcement training to meet requirements of a commissioned officer. Operate various office equipment, power tools, vessels, and heavy equipment. Perform maintenance duties on grounds, roads, trails, park facilities, and vehicle fleet.

Who are the customers?

Internal and external customers, visitors throughout the state of New Mexico and surrounding states who are campers, hikers, and boaters that come to visit the park for a variety of reasons. Local community businesses in surrounding areas of the park.

Ideal Candidate

Bachelor's degree in Parks and Recreation Management, Environmental Sciences, Forestry, Criminal Justice, or Wildlife Management from an accredited college or university and four (4) years of experience in parks and recreation management, natural resources, biology, environmental sciences, forestry, criminal justice, and/or wildlife management.
* The ideal candidate will have a strong working knowledge of parks and recreation management with experience in Law Enforcement.
* The candidate must be able to perform in stressful situations requiring prompt decision making with significant consequences.
* The candidate must have excellent communication, organizational skills, and be able to provide outstanding customer service.

Minimum Qualification

High School diploma or equivalency and one (1) year of experience in parks and recreation management, natural resources, biology, environmental sciences, forestry, criminal justice, and/or wildlife management. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling one (1) year may substitute for the required experience. Must be certified NM peace officer or obtain Law Enforcement Certification as set forth in Section 29-7-6 NMSA 1978 within one (1) year of hire.

Pay: $19.97 - $29.95 per hour
