Layout Welder

Summary

Lays out reference points and dimensions on sheets, plates, tubes, and structural shapes for fabricating, welding, and assembling into structural steel products by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Plans and develops layout as outlined on blueprints and templates of structural members, both simple and complex.
• Details location and sequence of cutting, drilling, bending, rolling, punching, and welding operations.
• Marks curves, lines, holes, dimensions, and welding symbols onto workpiece.
• Designs, fabricates any necessary jib or fixture as may be required to fabricate weldment
• Fits and aligns fabricated parts for welding or assembly operations.
• Utilizes torch or other heating devices to heat straighten, cut and camber any structural member.
• Positions or tightens braces, jacks, clamps, ropes, or bolt straps, or bolts parts in positions in preparation of welding.
• Operates overhead crane, ironworkers, welders, hand tools and small equipment.
• Performs duties of a welder as needed.

Qualifications:

• One to three years related experience and/or training. Requires understanding of complex trusses, girders and frames.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to read tape measure.
