Lead AI / ML Engineer

This role requires someone who understands both machine learning fundamentals in deep levels and real-world implementation. The Lead AI/ML Engineer will design, develop, and deploy machine learning models to address real-world challenges. Responsibilities include working with neural network architectures, implementing algorithms to improve system performance, and solving complex problems related to AI applications. The role also involves analyzing and interpreting large datasets to advance the organization’s mission-driven goals.

This is not a research role. You should be able to lead and hit the ground running.

This is not a “just prompt engineering” role.

This is not Junior/mid-level position.

What you will do

• Design, build, and deploy ML models into production
• Work with LLMs (OpenAI, Claude, open-source models, etc.)
• Fine-tune and evaluate models when needed
• Design data pipelines for training and inference
• Run experiments and benchmark different models
• Work closely with backend engineers to integrate AI into products
• Improve model performance, latency, and cost efficiency
• Build evaluation frameworks for AI quality and safety

Required qualifications

Strong foundation in:

• Machine Learning
• Deep Learning
• Model evaluation techniques
• Data preprocessing & feature engineering

Experience with:

• Python
• PyTorch or TensorFlow
• Hugging Face ecosystem
• LLM APIs and open-source models
• Experience deploying models to production

Understanding of:

• Model fine-tuning (LoRA, PEFT, etc.)
• Embeddings & vector databases
• Prompt engineering
• RAG architectures
• Comfortable working with cloud platforms

Nice to have:

• Background in NLP or conversational AI
• Experience in building muti-agent-based AI systems
• Deep contextual understanding of Arabic language and Islamic principles.

Background:

• More than 5 years of professional development (most of which should be AI focused)

• This is a half-time/part-time position but for the right person we can make it a full-time.
• We are mostly remote team. Great place if you are solo-contributor.
• We are flexible on compensation ( estimated full-time range: 40,000 EGP - 90,000 EGP depending on your skills and experience level ).
• Flexible schedule; we care more about quality and output than when and how you do the work (we do have team meetings every other day and as necessary - usually EST time early/late evenings)

Interview process

Step one: group call with the team. We will go over your experience and what you have been working on. This is the time to showcase all the cool stuff you are building/experimenting with.

Step two: a take home exercise (ideally should be able to complete within 2-4 hrs.

Step three: final interview reviewing the take home exercise and group discussion.
