About the Role:
The Lead Benchman/Custom Cabinet Maker plays a key role in the fabrication of high-quality commercial cabinetry, casework, and custom millwork. This position requires precision craftsmanship, a strong understanding of woodworking tools and techniques, and the ability to interpret shop drawings and specifications. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, safety-conscious, and capable of producing consistent, top-tier work in a fast-paced shop environment
Minimum Qualifications:

5 years of experience in a commercial cabinet or millwork shop (required).

Proficient in safe operation of woodworking machinery and hand tools.

Ability to lift 50+ lbs and stand for extended periods.

Strong understanding of cabinet construction, laminate, and veneer techniques.

CNC experience is a plus but not required.

Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities
Fabrication & Assembly
- Build and assemble commercial-grade cabinetry and casework from architectural drawings and shop plans.
- Accurately cut, shape, and finish wood, laminate, veneer, and other materials to meet design specifications.
- Operate woodworking machinery such as saws, edge banders, planers, routers, jointers, and shapers.
- Execute custom and one-off builds with a high level of craftsmanship.
Quality Control & Standards
- Ensure all fabricated products meet company standards and industry specifications (AWI or equivalent).
- Inspect and verify dimensions, fit, finish, and functionality throughout the build process.
- Maintain clean, accurate, and organized workstations.
- Adhere to OSHA and company safety protocols at all times.
Installation & Hardware
- Fit and install cabinet doors, drawers, and hardware (hinges, pulls, slides, locks, etc.).
- Prepare finished casework for delivery and field installation.
- Collaborate with field installers to ensure seamless assembly and fit.
Technical Skills
- Read and interpret shop drawings, and material cut lists.
- Accurately measure and layout components using hand tools and measuring instruments.
- Work efficiently with a variety of materials including plywood, MDF, laminate, veneer, and hardwoods.
- Assist in the development of jigs and fixtures to improve shop efficiency.
Teamwork & Communication
- Coordinate daily workflow with shop foremen, project managers, and fellow benchmen.
- Report discrepancies or material issues promptly.
- Support team goals through flexibility, reliability, and a professional work ethic.
Maintenance & Shop Support
- Maintain and troubleshoot tools and machines to ensure optimal performance.
- Keep work areas and shared spaces clean and safe.
- Assist with loading, unloading, and staging of materials and finished product.
Work Environment
- Full-time, on-site in a commercial millwork shop environment.
- Exposure to wood dust, noise, and shop machinery.
- Occasional overtime may be required to meet project deadlines.
