Launched in 2019, Taptap is tapping into a transformative shift in global finance: from banks to phones. While this has affected wealthier countries as well, it has been nothing short of a revolution for the emerging markets where the overwhelming majority of population had been unable to access digital finance previously. Role

We are looking for an ambitious legal professional who is excited to take on a broader business leadership role. You will be a key member of our legal team, handling a variety of matters from corporate / financing projects to key commercial contracts This role is perfect for a lawyer who thrives on variety and isn't afraid to step outside their comfort zone. You’ll get hands-on experience with complex legal work in a high-growth environment.

Location : London, Brussels, Paris, or Dubai

Responsibilities

• Build and scale the legal framework (“the machine”) for how commercial legal work is executed globally - including designing playbooks, automation, common language, and processes that reduce manual labor while ensuring the right balance of human judgment and QA
• Act as a senior legal advisor to the executive team and board on high-impact company priorities - helping shape strategic decisions across financing, partnerships, expansion, and other key initiatives
• Manage global external counsel to ensure quality, consistency, and cost-effective support across jurisdictions
• Draft, review, and negotiate complex commercial agreements with business critical partners, applying a risk balanced approach that supports growth
• Establish cross-functional workflows with product, finance, operations, and leadership to ensure legal is a proactive enabler, not a blocker, in decision making
• Proactively identify risks and opportunities in new markets, products, and partnerships, and design practical strategies to address them
• Lead and develop section of our high-impact team (managing 2 paralegals), providing coaching, prioritisation, and structure to increase leverage across the function
• Oversee broader legal matters as needed (disputes, intellectual property, employment law), ensuring business objectives remain aligned with compliance and risk management
  
  

Requirements

• Legally qualified lawyer (any jurisdiction) with strong commercial law experience
• Proven track record in-house, ideally at a high-growth start-up or scale-up, with exposure to building or scaling legal frameworks
• Strategic advisor experience comfortable working with executive leadership and boards on high impact projects and decisions
• Skilled at building systems and processes (e.g. playbooks, workflows, automation) that increase efficiency while balancing risk and business needs
• Excellent at managing external counsel globally, ensuring both quality and cost-effectiveness
• Experience leading and developing with ability to prioritise and delegate effectively
• Exceptional communicator able to distill complex legal and commercial issues into clear, actionable guidance for non legal stakeholders
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to diagnose root causes and design practical, business-oriented solutions
• Organised and autonomous able to manage multiple high stakes deliverables in a fast paced environment
• Comfortable navigating ambiguity operating outside comfort zones, and tackling new challenges with creativity
• Proficient in tools such as Excel (or equivalent) for analysis and scenario modelling
• Fluent in English; additional languages a plus
