Lead Data Engineer

Lead Data Engineer — London, Full-time

A fast-growing AI company is looking for its first senior data hire to own the entire data architecture. You'll build the pipelines, infrastructure, and ML data systems that power a platform already live with thousands of users — and help define how the data team grows from here.

What you'll do

• Architect and build scalable data pipelines for AI and product workloads
• Build and optimise vector search, retrieval, and ML data systems
• Own data reliability, quality, and observability across the platforms
• Work directly with founders and engineering, and help hire the future data team

What we're looking for

• 7+ years in data or backend engineering
• Strong Python skills
• Experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL preferred) and NoSQL
• Hands-on with vector databases (Qdrant, Milvus, pgvector or similar
• Familiarity with Spark, Airflow, or Kafka
• Experience with AI or ML platforms is a plus
• High-ownership mindset — you enjoy building from scratch
