Lead Dental Assistant (DAII)

Dentistry of Uptown Charlotte is a boutique, technology-driven dental practice located in the heart of Uptown Charlotte. Our office focuses on delivering highly personalized, comprehensive care using advanced digital technology in a relationship-focused environment.

We are currently seeking a Dental Assistant to serve as our sole clinical assistant, working closely with the doctor in a small, high-performing team.

This position is ideal for an experienced dental assistant who takes pride in their work, enjoys collaborating closely with the doctor, and values being part of a small, highly skilled clinical team. They should be a self-starter who can work independently, solve problems effectively, and contribute to a positive, team-oriented environment while also educating patients and helping them understand their treatment and oral health needs.

Because our office performs a wide range of procedures and utilizes advanced digital technology, this role is best suited for someone confident in their clinical abilities and comfortable assisting in a comprehensive dentistry environment.

Responsibilities

  • Welcome patients warmly, explain procedures, and ensure comfort throughout their visit.
  • Prepare treatment rooms and maintain OSHA-compliant sterilization and infection control protocols.
  • Capture appropriate radiographs, impressions, and intraoral scans.
  • Operate PrimeScan and CEREC digital dentistry systems for intraoral scanning and same-day crown workflows.
  • Record medical and dental histories, vitals, and charting information using Open Dental.
  • Provide chairside assistance to the doctor including instrument transfer, suctioning, and procedural support using four-handed dentistry techniques.
  • Fabricate and cement temporary crowns, assist with cord packing, impressions, and whitening treatments as qualified.
  • Placement of Invisalign attachments for clear aligner therapy.
  • Educate patients on treatment plans, post-operative care, and oral health maintenance.
  • Manage clinical documentation and ensure accurate charting and coding of procedures.
  • Coordinate lab cases, prescriptions, and follow-up communication with patients.
  • Assist with surgical and sedation cases when scheduled.
  • Participate in team meetings, continuing education opportunities, volunteer events including our annual Day of GoodWill, and office culture initiatives.

Schedule & Hours

  • 32-38 hours per week average
  • Clinical hours: Monday – Thursday - 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. (staff arrives at 6:35 a.m. and we have a team huddle at 6:45 a.m.)
  • Occasional Fridays as needed for large surgical/sedation cases
  • One annual volunteer day (Day of GoodWill in November)

Requirements

  • North Carolina X-Ray Certification
  • BLS/CPR certification
  • Previous dental assisting experience 2+ years
  • Knowledge of digital dentistry workflows (iTero, CEREC, NOMAD, Open Dental)
  • Proficient in four-handed dentistry techniques and workflows
  • Strong communication, organizational skills, and patient-first mindset.
  • Comfortable building authentic connections with patients—our practice is not surface-level; we treat patients like family and value real conversation.
  • Strong understanding of infection control practices and aseptic techniques within a clinical setting.
