Lead Diesel Technician

Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Lead Diesel Technician to join our dynamic service team. In this pivotal role, you will oversee the maintenance, repair, and diagnostics of a wide range of heavy-duty equipment, including trucks, industrial machinery, etcetera. Your expertise will ensure optimal performance, safety, and reliability of our fleet and machinery. As a leader in the shop, you will mentor junior technicians, coordinate complex repairs, and uphold the highest standards of quality and efficiency. This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned mechanic with a passion for heavy equipment and a drive to lead by example.

Duties

  • Lead and supervise a team of diesel technicians, providing guidance on repair procedures and best practices
  • Diagnose complex issues using schematics, automotive diagnostics tools, and mechanical knowledge
  • Perform repairs and maintenance on diesel engines, transmissions, air brake systems, hydraulics, suspension components, shocks & struts, HVAC systems, and electrical systems
  • Fabricate parts or modifications using power tools, welding equipment, and hand tools to meet specific repair needs
  • Conduct heavy equipment operation including excavators, cranes, forklifts, tractor-trailers, and other industrial machinery
  • Interpret technical manuals, schematics, and service bulletins to troubleshoot issues efficiently
  • Ensure all work complies with safety standards and manufacturer specifications; perform vehicle alignments and tire services as needed
  • Maintain detailed service records and communicate effectively with customers regarding repairs and maintenance plans
  • Assist in training junior staff on proper repair techniques and safety protocols
  • Support the shop’s workflow by performing vehicle maintenance tasks such as brake repair, wheel alignment, suspension work, and assembly of equipment

Experience

  • Proven experience working as a diesel technician or mechanic within a dealership or heavy equipment environment
  • Hands-on experience with automotive repair including transmissions, electrical systems, HVAC systems, hydraulics, and air brake systems
  • Skilled in reading schematics and using diagnostic tools for troubleshooting complex mechanical issues
  • Demonstrated ability to operate heavy machinery such as excavators, forklifts, and tractor-trailers safely and efficiently
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting safely while maintaining attention to detail during repairs
  • Mechanical aptitude combined with electrical experience is essential for success in this role
  • Hourly rate is dependent on experience
