ABOUT THE JOB

The Lead Environmental Data Scientist is the recognized senior company technical expert in knowledge and experience in Environmental Data Sciences. This role has exceptional technical expertise in strategic data management plan for Tepa’s emerging contaminant technical program, and develops process strategy related to cloud data environments, data sciences, and other technology initiatives. This role is also responsible for the development and execution of automated production workflows and works on multiple projects, maintains project schedules, and completes work safely and in accordance with approved work planning documents. The Lead Environmental Data Scientist coordinates with clients, contractors, outside consultants, government agencies and internal staff. This role also creates and provides training and mentoring to staff, takes initiative on projects/problems, and is the senior technical leader within the Environment data team.

Job Functions:

  • Provide technical leadership to a diverse team ranging from junior to senior level staff, including monitoring, mentoring, and leading the growth of team members
  • Responsible for supervision and technical direction of data analyst employees
  • Provide oversight on project execution and health, ensuring quality excellence, and setting appropriate hydrogeological goals and objectives
  • Assist in the development of project plans and staffing strategies, ensuring alignment with approved business plans
  • Instrumental in maintaining long-term relationships with key clients by providing technical expertise, attending client meetings, and leading project development pursuits.
  • Represent Tepa with data management expertise at technical events such as conferences and technical meetings.
  • Assist project managers with technical issues, scheduling, and cost control measures,
  • Work with technical staff, Proposal Management, and Business Development staff to support proposal development.
  • Write Technical Approaches and other proposal documents as required.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with subcontractors, teaming partners, and clients.
  • Ensure Tepa Core Values are being practiced by all Tepa staff.
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned.


WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences, geographic information sciences, data analytics, information sciences, or related field
  • 20+ years of relevant experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products, especially Word and Excel
  • Specialized computer skills in ESRI GIS software and processes
  • Specialized developing skills in SQL Server and Azure
  • Specialized programming skills in Python, JavaScript, and multiple Open-Source development frameworks on environmental data
  • Demonstrated ability to fulfill commitments on schedule and meet clients' service expectations and requirements
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with project team members and clients
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in building working relationships and interacting with multidisciplinary teams
  • Strong technical and problem-solving skills, including attention to detail, accuracy, and completeness, as well as a commitment to producing high-quality deliverables
  • Strong interpersonal, logical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks to meet multiple schedule deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail


Preferred Education and Experience (not required):

  • Master’s Degree
  • Prior federal and DoD experience
