Position Overview

Haven Design is seeking an experienced Lead Interior Designer to lead projects from concept through installation while delivering an exceptional client experience.

This role is ideal for a designer who combines creativity with technical expertise and enjoys managing both the artistic and operational aspects of residential design. You'll serve as the primary design lead, collaborating closely with clients, contractors, architects, and vendors to bring thoughtfully designed spaces to life.

The ideal candidate is confident leading client presentations, highly organized, detail-oriented, and passionate about creating beautiful, functional interiors.

Key Responsibilities

Design Leadership

  • Lead projects from initial concept through final installation.
  • Develop space plans, finish palettes, furnishings, lighting plans, and architectural details.
  • Create compelling design presentations using mood boards, material palettes, drawings, and renderings.
  • Ensure design consistency and quality throughout every phase of the project.

Client Experience

  • Serve as the primary point of contact throughout the design process.
  • Lead client meetings and presentations with professionalism and confidence.
  • Build strong client relationships while guiding decisions and managing expectations.

Project Management

  • Oversee multiple residential design projects simultaneously.
  • Coordinate project schedules, procurement, and installation timelines.
  • Work closely with architects, contractors, consultants, and vendors to ensure successful project execution.

Technical Documentation

  • Produce and review detailed construction drawings, specifications, and design documentation using SketchUp.
  • Maintain accurate documentation to support construction and purchasing processes.

Site Coordination

  • Conduct site visits and attend project meetings to review progress, answer design questions, and resolve field conditions.
  • Ensure installations align with the approved design intent.

Studio Leadership

  • Mentor junior designers and support a collaborative studio culture.
  • Help refine internal design standards, workflows, and best practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in interior design ​preferred
  • 5+ years of professional interior design experience (luxury residential experience preferred)
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating both creative vision and technical proficiency
  • Proficiency in SketchUp
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills
  • Experience leading client meetings and managing projects independently
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to design excellence
  • Self-motivated, collaborative, and adaptable

Compensation

Base Salary: $40,000–$45,000 annually, based on experience

This role includes a performance-based compensation structure with uncapped commission opportunities tied to project sales and design revenue.

Our Lead Interior Designers earn an average total compensation of $100,000+ annually, with significant earning potential for top performers.

This compensation model rewards designers who excel in client relationships, project leadership, and delivering exceptional design outcomes.

Schedule

Full-Time | Onsite

Monday–Thursday: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Friday: 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Occasional evening communication or work may be required to support project deadlines, installations, or construction coordination.

Travel for industry events and continuing education is expected approximately 3–6 times per year.
