The Lead Material Handler plays a crucial leadership role in daily warehouse and donation center operations. This position ensures a safe, organized, and compliant work environment while supervising Material Handlers and modeling adherence to Goodwill's mission and Core Values of Respect, Excellence, and Integrity. Responsibilities span inventory control, safety leadership, team development, cross-departmental collaboration, and warehouse logistics. This role may serve in a supervisory capacity and as the site’s Safety & Wellness Captain.
Leadership & Team Supervision
- Supervise daily warehouse activities, ensuring completion of tasks with safety, speed, and accuracy.
- Provide input on employee performance and participate in corrective actions as appropriate.
Warehouse Operations
- Perform regular safety inspections and ensure compliance with all opening/closing procedures.
- Assist with unloading incoming store and donor shipments; rotate and prepare materials for transport.
Inventory Control & Quality Assurance
- Oversee inventory receipt and dispatch; confirm shipments match manifests and documentation.
- Maintain accurate daily inventory reports and track inventory across commodity categories.
- Ensure proper labeling, storage, and handling of items per legal and organizational standards.
Safety and Compliance
- Ensure compliance with Kentucky regulations on hazardous materials storage/disposal.
- Collaborate with store managers and transportation teams to meet monthly safety/wellness deadlines.
Training and Certification
- Facilitate forklift and equipment certification courses; maintain related documentation.
Customer and Donor Engagement
- Maintain cleanliness of interior and exterior donation and warehouse sites.
Administrative Duties
- Utilize Microsoft Excel and Word to generate reports and maintain operational records.
- Monitor and respond to email communications promptly and professionally.
Other Duties
- Perform additional duties and projects as assigned to support operational goals.
- Excellent organizational, leadership, and time management skills.
- Strong written/verbal communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel and Word preferred).
- Familiarity with safety protocols and hazardous material handling (Kentucky regulations preferred)
- High School Diploma or GED required (preferred).
- Previous warehouse, transportation, and leadership experience preferred.
- OSHA-compliant forklift certification (or ability to obtain).
- Ability to lift/carry up to 50 pounds.
- Frequent walking, bending, stooping, climbing, and repetitive motions.
- Work in varying environmental conditions including heat, cold, dust, and noise.
