Lead Mechanic/ Shop Foreman

-Must be capable of maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing Kenworth and Peterbilt trucks

-Must be able to maintain, diagnose, and repair hydraulic systems

-Must be able to maintain, diagnose, and repair radios and electrical systems

-Must be able to order parts and coordinate timely transport and delivery

-Must be able to do field work

-Must be able to weld

This job is for the lead position in our 8,000 square foot heavy equipment repair shop. Shop is equipped with multiple bays, 30x80 main bay is equipped with a 3-ton overhead hoist, welders, plasma torch, tools, presses, pullers, pneumatic tools, compressed air, lathe, milling machine, hose press, etc. We provide a fully stocked service truck for field work and call outs.

This job requires multiple skills and constant multi-tasking. Our shop is a revolving door of projects and call out repair situations. We repair and maintain Kenworth and Peterbilt trucks. Caterpillar excavators, loaders, dozers, rollers, and graders, Kobelco excavators, track mobile Metso crushers, Chevy Duramax diesel pickup trucks, and more. Most of our equipment is Cat powered and most is pre-emissions. Our crushers, rock drill, and a few excavators are 2023 and newer and are tier 4 final with emission controls.

Logistics is one of our biggest challenges here in Petersburg. We ship most of our parts through Seattle Washington. They are either Gold Streaked on Alaska Airlines or shipped via barge with Alaska Marine Lines/Lynden. Timing and coordination is critical to keep our operations moving, we have many suppliers and contacts that we will pass on. The new shop foreman will be expected to learn how to be as efficient as possible in coordinating parts orders and in rotating repair projects as parts arrive. New shop foreman will be expected to be able to work alone as well as with others. We often have a lesser experienced hand in the shop to work under the direction of the shop foreman, and occasionally rotate a few more experienced guys in to do big jobs fast.

Pay: $40.00 - $50.00 per hour
