Lead Network & Infrastructure Engineer (network design)

Job Summary:

The Lead Network & Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining enterprise-level network and infrastructure architecture. The role ensures high availability, scalability, performance, and security of the organization’s IT network systems while leading technical design decisions and supporting critical infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities:Network Design & Architecture

  • Design scalable and secure enterprise network architectures (LAN, WAN, WLAN, VPN)
  • Develop high-level and low-level network design (HLD/LLD) documents
  • Plan and implement network segmentation, redundancy, and disaster recovery strategies
  • Evaluate and recommend network technologies and solutions

Infrastructure Management

  • Oversee servers, data centers, cloud infrastructure, and virtualization platforms
  • Ensure high availability and performance of IT infrastructure
  • Manage hybrid environments (on-prem + cloud such as AWS, Azure, GCP)

Network Operations & Optimization

  • Monitor network performance, bandwidth usage, and latency
  • Identify bottlenecks and implement optimization strategies
  • Ensure uptime, reliability, and service continuity

Security & Compliance

  • Implement network security controls (firewalls, IDS/IPS, NAC, VPNs)
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to enforce security policies
  • Ensure compliance with internal and regulatory standards

Project Leadership

  • Lead infrastructure and network upgrade projects
  • Coordinate with vendors, service providers, and internal teams
  • Define technical requirements and project scope

Troubleshooting & Support

  • Resolve complex network and infrastructure issues
  • Provide escalation support for critical incidents
  • Perform root cause analysis for major outages

Documentation & Standards

  • Maintain network diagrams, configurations, and documentation
  • Establish infrastructure standards and best practices
  • Ensure proper change management procedures are followed

Required Skills & Qualifications:Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, Telecom Engineering, or related field

Technical Skills:

  • Strong expertise in network protocols (TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, VLANs, DNS, DHCP)
  • Hands-on experience with enterprise networking devices (Cisco, Juniper, Fortinet, etc.)
  • Knowledge of load balancers, firewalls, and proxy systems
  • Experience in cloud networking (AWS VPC, Azure Networking, hybrid networks)
  • Familiarity with virtualization (VMware, Hyper-V)

Infrastructure Skills:

  • Server administration (Windows/Linux)
  • Data center operations
  • Storage systems and backup solutions
  • Network monitoring tools (SolarWinds, PRTG, Nagios, etc.)

Soft Skills:

  • Strong leadership and team collaboration abilities
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical thinking
  • Ability to manage multiple critical projects
  • Strong communication and documentation skills

Preferred Certifications:

  • Cisco CCNP / CCIE (Routing & Switching or Enterprise)
  • CompTIA Network+ / Security+
  • AWS Certified Advanced Networking
  • Microsoft Azure Network Engineer Associate
  • VMware Certified Professional (VCP)

Work Environment:

  • Enterprise IT / Data center / Hybrid cloud environment
  • On-call support for critical infrastructure issues
  • Involvement in high-availability and mission-critical systems
