Lead Planning Engineer

GSO Qatar is seeking a results-driven Lead Planning Engineer to head the planning and scheduling function across major Oil & Gas EPC projects. The role requires leadership of the planning team, full ownership of project schedules, and strategic oversight of project controls to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery.

The Lead Planner will act as the focal point between project management, engineering, procurement, construction, and client representatives, ensuring schedule integrity and contractual compliance throughout the project lifecycle.

Key ResponsibilitiesPlanning Strategy & Leadership

  • Lead the development of integrated EPC baseline schedules (Level 3 & Level 4).
  • Establish and manage project Work Breakdown Structure (WBS).
  • Oversee resource-loaded and cost-loaded schedules.
  • Supervise and mentor planning engineers and project control staff.

Schedule Control & Performance Monitoring

  • Monitor overall project progress and performance (SPI, CPI, productivity trends).
  • Conduct critical path analysis and float management.
  • Identify potential delays and implement mitigation/recovery plans.
  • Review subcontractor schedules and ensure alignment with master program.

Project Controls & Risk Management

  • Lead schedule risk assessments and scenario simulations.
  • Support variation analysis and Extension of Time (EOT) claims preparation.
  • Ensure compliance with contract requirements and client procedures.

Reporting & Client Interface

  • Prepare executive-level progress reports and dashboards.
  • Present planning updates in client and management meetings.
  • Coordinate with engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning teams.
  • Ensure reporting accuracy in accordance with QatarEnergy and major operator standards.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, or related discipline).
  • 12+ years of experience in Oil & Gas EPC planning.
  • Minimum 5 years in a leadership or supervisory planning role.
  • Strong experience in onshore/offshore projects within Qatar or GCC.
  • Advanced proficiency in Primavera P6 (mandatory).
  • Strong knowledge of project controls, cost engineering, and contract management.

Preferred Certifications

  • PMP Certification.
  • Primavera P6 Professional Certification.
  • Expertise in Earned Value Management (EVM).
