Preschool Lead Teacher

Job Type: Part-Time hours 9:30 am to 2:30pm

Education: Minimum of Associates Degree in ECE/ Special Education or Level B in PD Registry

Position Overview
The Teacher is responsible for assisting and developing a learning environment for 3 to 6 preschool children with autism. The children are receiving intervention services however some need toileting training and diaper changing will be a requirement. Teachers must understand that children with autism may need support in cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development. The Teacher must be skilled in communicating with both children and adults (Intervention Specialists/Parents to meet the needs of the children and resolve parental concerns. Hourly wage will be based on degree and experience working with children with autism.

Key Responsibilities

  • Toileting and potty training.
  • Lead by example; encourage teaching success through modeling and coaching.
  • Plan individual and group age-appropriate activities to actively engage children and encourage social, cognitive and emotional growth with support from the intervention team.
  • Maintain frequent communications with parents through informal discussions, progress reports, and IEP meetings.
  • Ensure all center policies and state regulations are met.
  • Ensure a healthy classroom environment – including maintaining appropriate hygiene and cleanliness standards and the safety and security of children.
  • Maintain accurate records, forms, and files.
  • Maintain personal professional development plan to ensure continuous quality improvement.

Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Required

  • Minimum of 2 years of professional child-care experience working with children with autism.
  • High energy.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and basic computer skills.
  • Ability to work well with others (staff, children, and parents) and to foster a team environment.
  • A strong understanding of child development for children with autism
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Infant/child CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Must clear full background check and must pass health screening.

Physical Requirements

Classroom activities, Outdoor play involvement, minor lifting under 40 pounds
