Job Title: Lead Surgical Dental Assistant

Hourly Rate: $29-$31 (Non Exempt)

Department: Clinical

Reports to: Practice Manager

Schedule: Monday-Thursday, 6:50am-5:00pm

Location: Bakersfield, Ca

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Lead Surgical Dental Assistant to join our team and support our surgeons in delivering exceptional patient care. This role combines chairside surgical assisting with team leadership, helping supervise dental assistants, manage clinical inventory, and ensure efficient surgical workflows. The ideal candidate is a strong leader who leads by example, demonstrates professionalism and accountability, and helps foster a culture of hospitality, teamwork, and outstanding patient service.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Leadership

  • Lead the dental assistant team by example, modeling our core values and hospitality-focused patient care.
  • Supervise, train, and mentor dental assistants.
  • Participate in interviewing and hiring of new dental assistants.
  • Support team development and assist in performance reviews and improvement initiatives.
  • Coordinate assistant schedules with the office manager.
  • Participate in weekly leadership meetings.
  • Monitor clinical KPIs and support workflow improvements.
  • Maintain clinical supply and implant inventory within budget.

Clinical & Surgical Assistance

  • Assist surgeons chairside during oral surgery and implant procedures.
  • Prepare surgical trays, instruments, and materials.
  • Take impressions and digital scans.
  • Monitor patient vital signs during procedures.
  • Maintain a sterile surgical environment.
  • Collaborate with the FAS+ Lab team and respond promptly to lab communication needs.

Patient Care

  • Greet and prepare patients for surgery while ensuring comfort and safety.
  • Provide a high level of hospitality and service throughout the patient experience.
  • Obtain medical histories and vital signs.
  • Provide clear pre- and post-operative instructions.
  • Address and assist in resolving patient concerns with professionalism and empathy.
  • Support the practice’s consultation and treatment presentation process.

Compliance & Operations

  • Maintain sterilization and infection control protocols.
  • Oversee implant inventory, drug logs, and emergency medications.
  • Maintain OSHA and HIPAA compliance.
  • Assist with radiographs and digital imaging.

Required Qualifications:

  • Dental Assistant certification or accredited dental assisting program
  • Experience with oral surgery or implant procedures
  • Proficient in digital X-rays and sterilization protocols
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in implant or full-arch (All-on-X) procedures
  • Experience assisting with sedation or anesthesia cases
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
