General Function:
Under the guidance of the Childcare Program Director, the Head Teacher is responsible for the overall direction of the Childcare classroom to which she is assigned including: planning and implementing the daily program, training, equipment, room maintenance, lesson plans, curriculum planning and working with other staff co-operatively to plan and implement special events. It is our goal to teach in a fun, positive manner, in which a child can grow and become sure of themselves and their abilities through physical, social and academic learning.
Key Responsibilities:

Ensure health and safety of all participants through first aid administration, emergency procedure compliance, authorized pickup verification, and supervision during playground, swimming, and gym activities

Develop and implement daily curriculum by creating monthly lesson plans (submitted one month in advance), maintaining daily schedules, preparing supply requests, and utilizing Creative Curriculum framework

Mentor Assistant Teachers and Teacher Aides using team teaching techniques to meet program goals and objectives

Maintain parent communication through daily interactions, Tadpoles Daily Reporting App, biannual progress reports, parent conferences, 24-hour email response time, and monthly calendars highlighting themes and activities

Foster positive child development by teaching social skills, encouraging decision-making, managing challenging behaviors with documentation, maintaining group management throughout daily activities, and supporting emotional growth

Manage classroom maintenance including artwork displays, furniture safety checks, organization of storage areas, and coordination of weekly cleaning schedules

Complete 12 hours of state-required annual training for professional development (paid)

Collaborate with Childcare Director on lesson plans, curriculum development, and program updates

Attend all staff meetings and childcare events (paid attendance)

Maintain work laptop and follow all policies and procedures outlined in handbook

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Must have a strong interest and knowledge in preschool/pre-k development with at least one year of classroom experience.

Must possess strong communication and leadership skills and have the knowledge necessary to establish and maintain a high-quality preschool program.

Must have the ability to work cooperatively with other staff members and volunteers to meet the needs of the YMCA.

Must possess and maintain a clean criminal record.
-
Maintain first aid & CPR certification.
-
Maintain a positive attitude for team harmony.

Be flexible in a fast-paced environment.
