Position Overview

The lead teacher is responsible for taking care of the classroom and children assigned and create a nurturing learning environment for educational development. Must develop and maintain a positive working relationship with other WVLC staff members, families, children.

Key Responsibilities

· Plan and implement age-appropriate curriculum and educational activities that promote the social, emotional, physical, and intellectual growth of children.

· Create and maintain a safe, nurturing, learning environment for all children under your care.

· Observe, assess, and document children’s progress and development.

· Communicate daily with parents/guardians regarding their child’s achievements and needs.

· Implement organized, consistent, and effective classroom management techniques.

· Ensure compliance with center policies, KDHE health and safety regulations, and State Licensing Requirements.

· Model appropriate behavior and guide children using Conscious Discipline strategies.

· Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.

· Assist with the planning and execution of special events, field trips, and family engagement activities.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Additional Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must be able to perform duties with children at their height - Sit on the floor etc. and participate in recreational activities with the children.
  • Be able to perform under stress when confronted with emergency, critical, or unusual situations.
  • Dependent on the Number of children in the classroom you will be teaching. (See KDHE Staff Qualifications KAR 28-4-429(h) Chart).
  • Ability to pass a comprehensive background check
  • CPR & 1st Aid certification
  • college coursework or degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development or a current CDA Credential, or willing to work towards one of these options
  • Health Assessment
  • TB Skin test

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to exert up to 50 lbs. of force frequently to move objects.
  • Lift up to 40 lbs. occasionally and up to 25 lbs. Frequently.
  • Physical demands include stooping, kneeling, reaching, handling, finger dexterity, feeling, leaning, near acuity, far acuity, depth perception, field of vision, naturally or with correction, close areas, and good eye hand coordination or with suitable accommodation.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Be able to perform under stress when confronted with emergency, critical, or unusual situations.

Pay: $30,000.00 - $45,000.00 per hour
