This role requires strong leadership, great communication, and a calm, organized presence. You’ll set the tone for your classroom, guide assistants, and partner with families—all while keeping the day running smoothly and joyfully.

  • Support each child’s physical, emotional, and developmental needs—including diapering, potty training, and feeding routines.
  • Encourage independence and participation through structured routines and playful learning.
  • Take children outdoors daily (walks, playgrounds, local adventures).
  • Keep the classroom tidy and sanitized—cleaning surfaces, toys, and shared spaces regularly.
  • Communicate with parents and rest of the team while creating a warm and engaging environment for all.

Curriculum & Learning

  • Plan and lead a play-based, developmentally appropriate curriculum that nurtures social, emotional, cognitive, and physical growth.
  • Implement the four daily pillars: Circle Time, Music & Movement, Art/Crafts, and Large Motor Play.
  • Foster creativity and curiosity through hands-on projects and sensory exploration.
  • Collaborate with your teaching team to design meaningful classroom experiences.

Team & Communication

  • Model professionalism, teamwork, and a supportive attitude.
  • Communicate clearly and consistently with parents through Brightwheel (daily updates, milestones, and photos).
  • Welcome and mentor new team members as part of a collaborative, inclusive culture.

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all DCFS and City of Chicago licensing and safety regulations.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, health, and incident records.
  • Complete all mandatory trainings, certifications, and in-service hours.
  • Stay alert and proactive about supervision and classroom safety at all times.

Professional Growth

  • Participate in ongoing professional development and staff meetings.
