The Lead Teacher is responsible for developing a cohesive teaching team, coordinating the curriculum, and managing the day-to-day operational activities of the classroom. Teachers must understand and work with each child as it relates to their cognitive, social, emotional and physical development. These attributes as key to ensure a safe and stimulating classroom environment where children are actively engaged and encouraged to succeed. The Lead Teacher must be skilled in communicating with both children and adults in order to meet the needs of the children, effectively guide Teacher Assistants, and resolve parental concerns. Lesson planning experience will be helpful in this role.

This Lead Teacher reports to the Director and Assistant Director.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Coordination and implementation of educational curriculum by developing classroom activities based on developmentally appropriate practices and the Connecticut Early Learning Development Standards.
  • Observe, document, assess, and report the progress of children in meeting the performance standards using the Documentation and Observation for Teaching System.
  • Supervise the children at all times for their safety and the safety of others.
  • Labeling of all children's items (bags, clothes, diapers, wipes, pacifiers, cups, bottles, blankets, etc.)
  • Leading by example; encouraging teaching team success through modeling and coaching.
  • Planning individual and group age-appropriate activities to actively engage children and encourage social, cognitive, and emotional growth.
  • Maintaining frequent communication with parents through informal discussions, progress reports, and parent-teacher conferences.
  • Using Brightwheel (will train) to communicate with parents and share child’s work. (our center app)
  • Ensuring all center policies and state regulations are met.
  • Ensuring a healthy classroom environment – including maintaining appropriate hygiene and cleanliness standards for the safety and security of children.
  • Supervising teacher assistants and classroom volunteers to ensure they are following planned activities as well as hygiene and safety standards.
  • Maintaining accurate records, forms and files.
  • Maintaining personal professional development plan to ensure continuous quality improvement.
  • Maintaining a clean and organized classroom.
  • Holding weekly team meetings for planning and reflection.
  • Utilizing community resources, plan trips and classroom activities.
  • Stocking the classroom with supplies as needed.
  • Keeping toys, mats appropriately sanitized, according to CDC and state licensing regulations.
  • Attending meetings, as scheduled.
  • Participating in extracurricular activities such as Open House, Parents Evening/weekend Events at ACCLC, etc.
  • Attending professional development as required.

Certification: The Lead Teacher will provide documentation of the following credentials: A current CDA AND 12 Early Childhood Education (ECE) credits or an Associates degree in any field AND at least 12 ECE credits or a Bachelor degree in ECE Preferred or a Bachelor degree in any field AND 12 ECE credits Preferred.

Job Type: Full-time
